The ride back wasn't too bad. Often times I would listen to Bucky's heart from time to time to calm me down. I am not sure what is going to happen when we get to the compound.
After a long flight, we finally make it back to the compound. As we land, I see Fury standing there waiting.
"Good to see you up and moving Captain." He says
"Thanks Fury. It's been harder than you think" I tell him honestly.
"I cannot even image what you are going through. When you are ready come find me. I have solo's and some small group missions ready. I don't want to rush you but these are very serious missions. Intel shows Queen Hydra is trying to find two other assets but it seems some of the agents were stupid and lost the locations. Luckily for me, I may have found it." He says quietly to me.
"Just give me a few days if you don't mind?" I ask.
"Of course, I also retrieved evidence that Barnes was controlled when he was sent out to take out the Starks" he whispers in my ear.
"Thank you. Do you have it on you? My first "mission" today is telling Tony and showing him what Bucky has been through" I tell him.
"Be careful. I watched the footage. There are some things in there you haven't seen yet and it was wreck you emotionally and mentally" Fury warns me.
"Okay, all I ask if that you and Sam are in there with me when I tell him. Please" I say.
"Of course. I'll be back this evening. Go see the team. They are waiting for your arrival. It's good to have you back." He says walking off.
I take a deep breath and make my way inside to see everyone. When I see everyone they are all sitting around in the living room watching the TV.
"Hey Cap it's good to see you!" Thor says coming over and giving me a hug.
"Yeah you too Thor" I say.
"Oh before I forget, these are new team members, this is Peter Quil, Gamora, Nebula, Rocket, Groot, Drax and Mantis. And of course you already know Loki" Thor says.
"Hi everyone" I say waving shyly.
"Where've you been Cap?" Tony asks.
"A mission dealing with Hydra intel" I say flatly.
"Find anything?" He asks.
"Nothing that useful yet" I say shaking my head trying to sell everything.
"Well, it's good to have you back. The twins should be back soon. They are excited to meet you." Tony says.
I go and sit down with Sam with my thoughts consumed with Bucky. My heart aches being away from him. Maybe I should go ahead and start missions sooner just to occupy my time.
After a little while, I get up and head into the kitchen to get something to eat.
"So how are you really doing?"
I turn around and see Nat standing leaning against the counter.
I just shrug my shoulders. "Okay I guess. I found some dead ends but also some potential Intel. I just don't know how accurate it is. You know?" I state.
"Can I ask what it's about?" She asks.
"Umm yeah I guess. While I was going through some small bases, I saw some files that mentioned a Queen Hydra. While you were in the red room did you hear anything about that?" I asked.
Her eyes went wide then she quickly recovered acting fearful.
"Steve, if she is back, you need to stay away. This obsession with Hydra and finding Bucky is not worth it. Just let it go." She says.
"I can't do that" I state firmly.
"Damn it Rogers, Bucky is not worth it. He is just an extra person filling up space. One person is not worth all of this." She says.
"Ouch. And here I thought you knew me better than that Romanoff" I say flatly.
"Steve...I.." she says.
"No, no. I get it. I am just the soldier who is still living in the 40's who lost his best friend and needs to grow up and let it go right?" I start getting angrier causing the others to file in.
"Wrong, since the 40's I was literally fucking made to end the war and take down Hydra. I lost my best friend in the process and then froze myself for 70 years all to find out Hydra is still running. Why? Because those fucking snakes are power hungry and will hurt and kill innocent people for no fucking reason. So maybe I am obsessed. Wanna know why I am obsessed? Because not only did S.H.I.E.L.D let in a fucking hydra scientist believing he had changed, but they were also torturing and brainwashing Bucky. I will do whatever it takes to get him back and take Hydra down. I don't give a shit if that means I kill every single one of them, I will do it." I say to her dead in the eyes.
"Steve, you are the face of America. You can't just go killing people. What will that say about your reputation?" She says.
"Mmmmm I don't know Natasha what will it say? Steve Rogers gone mad killing Hydra agents? Or Captain America has gone dark watch out everyone? Ooo or how about some fucking sense and Captain America finally ended Hydra allowing all the world to be save from acts of terrorism once and for all. Why are you so fucking set on Hydra not being taken care of?" I asked.
I noticed she stiffened a little bit.
"Because of what they did to me and other widows. I don't want to get dragged back into that again and possibly be taken captive. What they did to us was unimaginable. I would rather just let it go then get involved with it." She states.
"Then why are you even an Avenger if you can't even fight for the good and safety of innocent people? If you don't want to be involved hand over your gun and suit and get the fuck out so the hero's who want to do something can and not have someone holding them back." I say getting close to her face.
Before she response I hear someone clear their throat. I turn my head and see Fury. He nods his head towards the conference room while looking at me. I don't even look back at Natasha and walk away.
"Sam, Tony please come with Fury and I." I say walking away.
The four of us go into the room and I shut the door.
"JARVIS lock this room, make it soundproof and disable any bugs that may be in here trying to listen."
