Chapter 63

After telling the team I wanted to retire, they were all supportive of the idea. Sam was touched when I asked him to be the person who takes over for me.

The big thing I am working on right now is building a house for Bucky and I to have to live the rest of our days in. Tony and Wanda are helping me with the planning. I would've asked my sister but her and Nat took off for traveling.

Bucky has continued going to therapy which has really paid off. So while he is there, I use that time to talk about the plans for the house to finish up the final touches.

"Are you sure this is everything?" Tony asked.

"Yes this is perfect! Now for tonight, for this after noon I just need you to give him the address so he can meet me there." I tell Tony.

"You got it!" Tony says.

I left the compound and headed out to the lake where our house was built. It was perfect. Since I had so much time to kill I started setting everything up for our dinner date.

I placed the lanterns on the path for Bucky to follow. I hung up fairy lights and lit some candles to set the mood.

I got the table and chairs situated and went to go pick up dinner. I would've cooked but I wanted to get his favorite tonight.

After what seemed like forever it was all done and put together and now I just have to wait for Bucky.

Roughly 10 minutes later I hear the car pull up and he starts walking my way.

When my therapy session was over, I headed back to the compound to spend the rest of my day with Steve however he was not there.

"Hey! Has anyone seen Steve?" I asked.

"Oh shit. Sorry I was suppose to give this to you" Tony says handing me a piece of paper.

"Hello my love,
please join me tonight for a moonlit dinner."

At the bottom of the note it included the address. So I quickly went to shower and got dressed before I got in the car that was waiting for me.

When I arrived, I got out and started looking around until I spotted some lit up lanterns. I followed down the path and the closer I got, I could hear soft music playing. As I was walking closer, I saw Steve standing there with a rose waiting for me.

"Hi Stevie" I say softly with a blush.

"Hi baby. You look so handsome." He says kissing my cheek lightly.

"Thank you. So do you. What is all of this?" I asked.

"Well I thought we were in for a date night so I decided to give you a romantic date night." He says leading me over to the table.

Once we sat down I noticed that it was all of my favorite foods. We soon began eating talking about the past and anything else that came up.

It was nice having this carefree feeling and just simply spending time with him.

"So I had some alternative motives to having the date out here tonight." Steve says.

"Mm and what would those be?" I asked taking a sip of my wine. 

"Look over there. You see that house by the lakeside?" He asked.

"Yeah?" I say confused.

"Well, for the last month, Tony and Wanda have been helping me build this for us. I thought it was time for us to have a home of our own with some privacy to live out our days. So this is a gift to you." He says.

"You...you built us a home?" I asked softly with tears forming in my eyes.

"Of course I did. In the beginning process of thinking about a home I started looking in Brooklyn, but thought we could use the privacy and alone time away from the city. But it is only a short drive in if we need anything. Plus I know how much you loved being close to the water when you were in Wakanda, which is why I had it built next to this lake. We only have the dock left to build for when the kids come to visit or we have guests over, we can have a day at the lake, grill out, and relax." He says explaining everything to me.

I was speechless.

"Baby please say something" Steve says nervously.

"I just cannot believe you did all of this for me. For us. This is the greatest thing you have ever done. Thank you doll." I tell him sincerely as I hold his hand.  

"I would do anything for you Bucky." He says lifting my hand placing a kiss on it.

He then stands up pulling me with him taking me over to the house so I can see the inside of it. As I am looking around I can tell it is the perfect mixture of us. Very homey and welcoming. I turn around to say something to Steve but he is not there.

So I walk out of the room I was in trying to find him. As I continue looking around, I see him in a room filled with candles and rose pedals.

"What is all of this?" I asked.

"Well, I never got to properly propose to you. When we were younger, I used to dream of how I would ask you to marry me, what our wedding would be like, and how happy we could be. Of course those times were different and it was just dreams but today, it can be a reality. James you have been the rock in my life that I could always count on. You were there for me when I was sick, when mom died, and so much more. You have made me want to be a better man and you have made me a better man. We have been through some rough patches but we ended up on the other side with victory. So baby, now that we can live a stress free life and do everything we've dreamed of, what do you say, will you marry me again?" He asks down on one knee holding a ring up.

I have tears rolling down my cheeks and my throat is too tight to speak. I get down on my knees to his level and pull him into a kiss.

"Yes, always. I will always marry you again and again." I whisper against his lips.

We then spent the rest of the night wrapped up in each other celebrating our love like never before.
