Nanami put things off a lot.
Really. He had a tendency to just ignore the bad in hopes that maybe if he doesn't acknowledge it, it'll just go away.
That's what he told himself as he joined the construction crew.
If he didn't go on runs, he didn't have to see broken down camps, walkers, or blood and death.
If he didn't go on recruitment (which Rick was now advocating against after the Reg and Pete thing) then he didn't have to travel, possibly see bad people, and have to fight said bad people.
But, if he chose a job that would bring him to staying inside the walls of Alexandria.. Then, he would have to talk to Sophia, feel claustrophobic, and deal with the uppity vibes of the people that haven't doe shit since shit went down.
Construction, though. He was outside. He didn't have to be on patrol to guard walkers, that could be someone else's burden. He could learn first hand from Abraham on actual useful things. Sure, being with Daryl taught him everything about hunting and tracking. But, he knew those things now. Here, he could learn new things and be helpful in a new way.
Helpful. Definitely not hiding away.

Sakiko swings she and Ryan's interlocked hands back and forth. They were just taking a walk- enjoying the air that was beginning to feel like fall.
"What do you want for dinner? I was thinking something warm. Soup," Sakiko tries to figure, "Ring in the leaves falling."
"You know what sounds mad good? A grilled cheese sandwich."
Sakiko's eyes light up, "Fuckin' genius!"
"Tomato soup on the side?"
Sakiko latches onto his waist, "God, I love you, Rhee."
As they turn to go on their street, they see Carl and Michonne jogging the other way.
"What's up?" Sakiko asks.
"Rick and Morgan.. They were outside the walls burying Pete," Michonne answers, calling across the road.
"They okay?" Ryan asks.
"Yeah," Michonne nods, walking closer to them, "There's a quarry not far from where they were. Hundreds, maybe thousands of walkers stuck. Someone backed some trucks up to the exit so only a few can get out at a time."
"Is there anything we can do?"
"Hold tight. Rick's planning a meeting to figure something out."
"Alright," Sakiko frowns, "Just let us know when."
"We will," Michonne assures, patting Carl's arm as they take off to the main house.

"You ever think that this rock of flying shit could just fall outta the sky?" Abraham wonders.
"Dude, these are cigarettes. Not anything stronger."
"Wouldn't hurt," Abraham grunts, plopping onto the ground beside Nanami, "Buddy of mine back in Iraq- he snuck in some good old Mary Jane. Think out of my years serving, that was the first and only good night's sleep I got."
"My old man," Nanami sighs, "He hit things harder than that. Popped 'em, too."
Nanami just figured that talking about Shinsuke was off limits.
Sakiko had moved on from him- that much was clear. It was like she'd completely broken free from the chains their birth father had on her. She was thriving and flourishing now that he was long gone.
