The chapter starts off with Sakuta and Izumi in a field.
Izumi: We just got to trust each other for the first step?
Sakuta nods and says Yep.
Izumi says in frustration But I hate kids, you can't trust them.
Mai: Well technically I'm sixteen years old.
Izumi points at Mai and says Don't care you look ten.
Mai: You know you're an ass right?
Izumi: You shouldn't be saying bad words, you're only ten.
Sakuta getting a little bit annoyed says OKAY! That's enough. Just try to be friends for the rest of the day.
The story then cuts to Sakuta and Rika at the clinic.
Rika says quietly to Sakuta And you thought I was being obnoxious for not caring for you.
Sakuta replies quietly Yeah, I'll never bring that up again.
Rika still quiet says I just hope they can be like us.
Mai shouts angrily You're such a dumbass! How do you not know about that?
Izumi shouts back Maybe because I only got here three days ago!
Jin disrupts them both shouting we are in a clinic for heaven's sake, SHUT UP!
Sakuta starts to have a ptsd episode and covers his left eye then rushes out of the room to the backroom.
Rika comes out and asks Flashes again?
Sakuta now covering his ear says It's like I can feel it crawling inside my ear.
Rika scuches closer then puts her hand on Sakuta's head and says It's okay, It's gone now.
Izumi knocks on the door and asks You okay in there?
Rika shouts Yeah! He just felt sick and needed to calm down for a second.
Rika says to Sakuta You should go lay down and try to keep your mind off it. I'll handle everything out there.
Sakuta gets up and walks to his bed and Rika goes to where Izumi and the others are. Rika sits down on a couch and Izumi tell her I used to be the one who took care of Sakuta's conscious. Not gonna lie it kinda sucks to see him relying on someone who isn't me. I can see that something was eating him.
Rika: You're right.
Izumi looks down and says I wish he'd talk to me like he used to. I know he's putting up a front and acting distant and the only one who he seems to let in is you.
Rika looks to the side away from Izumi and says He's been through more these days he's been here than you can imagine.
Izumi starts to raise his voice and says Try me, I was there when his sister and mom died. We're you there?
Rika looks at Izumi and says Watch your tone. I relived his mother and sister's deaths, it was like they were my own family.
Izumi: How?
Rika stands up and says Step two. Then she walks toward Sakuta's room.
Izumi looks down and Mai comes out and says You overreacted.
Izumi looks at Mai and says You're right. He's my best friend and it makes me sad to see he's moving on with his life and leaving me behind.
Mai says He's probably trying to learn how to take care of himself when you're not around and then she goes back in Izumi.
The story cuts to the next day in the field they was in yesterday.
Sakuta: You two seem more calm today. Have either of you two seen flashes or memories that are clearly not your own?
Izumi and Mai both say Nope.
Sakuta starts walking away and says I'll give you a couple of days, go hang out and be nice to each other, go explore the capital or something.
Story then cuts to Izumi in the capital with Mai.
Izumi walks out of a bakery with some bread for him and Mai.
Izumi hands Mai some bread and says I appreciate what you said yesterday, it helped me put things together.
Mai takes a bite and says At first I thought my sister was trying to become distant from me when we moved out on our own. It took me until yesterday to realize she was just trying to learn how to take care of both of us.
Both of them see flashes of memories and Izumi asks Are you seeing some weird things right now?
Mai puts the rest of the bread in her mouth and says We should probably get back.
The story cuts to Sakuta talking to Jin.
Jin trying to hold back tears says Mai is Izumi's cursed spirit.
Sakuta nods and says Don't say anything though, I don't know if Izumi or Mai wanted to say anything.
Jin looks up and says It would probably be better if Izumi broke the news to Touka.
Jin starts walking away and says I don't have the strength to tell her.
Rika comes out and says We should train again sometime.
Sakuta sits down on the couch and says We can train with Izumi and have sparing sessions.
Rika smiles and says Scared I'd kick your ass?
As soon as Rika finishes her sentence Izumi and Mai come in and says We're seeing some weird shit right now!
Sakuta stands up and says To the field.
They walk out of the clinic and Sakuta starts to have an episode right before they get there.
Sakuta quietly asks Rika You remember step two right?
Rika looking concerned says Yeah, why?
Sakuta starts holding his hand over his left ear and says I need you to help them. I need to calm down.
They finally arrive and Rika tells them Sakuta isn't feeling it right now, so I'll take his place. Rika points to a shaded area and says Both of you sit down over there.
They all walk over there and Mai and Izumi sit down.
Rika: For this step both of you will need to recount your most dark and painful memory. After you do that you will relive the other's memory and feel everything. This is going to suck, but in the long run this will benefit you both tremendously.
There are flashes of memories and then the chapter ends.
