Chapter Sixteen
CHRISTOPHER POV:
I had not wanted to wake up this morning. But my schedule has been busy for two weeks. My college semester has ended, and I work, and I go to therapy with Emma to help and improve on our relationship. We still have issues with each other, about our past and I think if we work hard we can make it through. And I know we both have doubts, but I don't see it that way. And I just want to get through these difficult hard times.
I had to wake up this morning with a big banquet of pastries that Emma baked when she woke up at five this morning. And she baked for me, since today is the day I was born twenty years ago on this day. It was on a Thursday, May seventeenth, 2001 at the San Diego Medical Center at 11:57pm. And so I find it so strange that when I woke up, I literally had this feeling that Emma had baked a lot of pastries for me, and she cooked the most perfect breakfast. And we literally had breakfast in the sunroom. And she was just giving me her full attention the entire morning. And then I left to hit the gym with Ty and then we I went in for work.
And now I'm literally just driving on my way from the San Francisco traffic back to L.A. It is exactly four-thirty in the afternoon. And I just want nothing more but stay in and be right next to Emma and cuddle her. And last week she literally had that talk with Victoria's dad about working in his office, and she literally wants it. And I do want her to work because I don't want her to feel trapped by any means because I want her to have that freedom. And I know we're married, but I like to think of it in that way when I say my money is our money.
I had quite a rough day trying to deal with the customers on a daily hour schedule by working at the drug store where I wasn't in the front, at the register hearing every customer talk about their day to day life. Today was less stressful. And yesterday I took my shift at the Yummy Franks. And I prefer bussing the tables. And the income is way better with the benefits. And I must say I'm incredibly grateful for the two jobs I work and going to classes for law school. I see Lara Jean everyday because we both have the same classes, for two years. In September I'll be starting my Junior year at the university. And Lara Jean will be starting her last year. UC Hastings is a three year program. She started at twenty. She's two years older than me and she started college a bit later after high school. So this'll be my final year coming up starting in September. Since it's a three year program.
I'm actually driving on the freeway, and I'm actually thinking about coming home to Emma, and I put on some of Billy Joel's Jessie's Girl. Which mine and Emma's favorite song. We obviously sing this in the car all the time. So the song just reminds me of Emma. Because she actually got me into this, and Edward got Emma into this because his mother got him in to this and her parents obviously got her into this. And hopefully I will get someone into this... like Hallie when she gets older.
I had stopped at the gas station, and I needed to fill my gas tank up a little since I was running low. And after I filled up, I had driven off to get back on the highway to get to the exit of thirty-nine and get home to Emma. And when I did, I pulled into the driveway, quite very exhausted but calm. And I noticed the driveway had a car in it. And I don't recognize it. And I just shrug it off, it could be any of Emma's friends who came to visit. It's not Mandy's car, because she drives a Jeep. Unless she got a new car. And Emma isn't the biggest fan of Mandy right now. She refuses to hear her name, and she unfriended Mandy on social media and then of course Mandy literally asked me what was going on but I clearly refuse to get involved between Emma and Mandy's feud or whatever. It doesn't change how I feel. I'm still gonna stay friends with Mandy because I'm friends with Aaron, and that clearly isn't fair. And I realize Emma's frustration. But she can't just call the shots all the time. And also making it all about her. When the world isn't always just about her.
