After the long months of training with our wepons and Odessa's magnet, we were getting one step closer to getting rid of Mason Howl from the throne. But with the newly acquired weapons, meant there were people who wanted them for parts. So everyday, it was a fight for our lives and for the weapons we had created. I had almost lost mine, but Odessa was there to stop them and retrieve my weapon. I really wouldn't be able to do half of the things I have done and accomplished if it weren't for her. And I want to let her know how much I appreciate everything she has done for me. But I don't know what to do to show her. Maybe I can take her out to the oasis. But we'd have to go at night, which would be the perfect time to not only tell her how I feel about her, but to also show much how I appreciate everything she has done for me.
I headed home after I went to the junk yard to find some scraps to make what I wanted to make. Reaching the back door, I placed my things on the workbench, but noticed things were really quiet in the house. Usually my mother or father would be making some kind of noise. Or my grandparents would be bickering to one another, but when I opened the door, no one was there. I walked over to my parent's bedroom to find it was empty. I walked to the front door and found nothing. Not even foot prints. I made my way to the back door where my father was.
"Dad?"
"Y/N, Y/N, come here."
"W-What's going on?" I asked, opening the door.
"It's your grandparents."
"What happened?" I asked, growing concerned.
"They're not going to make it to the night."
"Where are they?"
My father led me to where my grandparents were. They were in a healer's hut, but everything they have done had no effect on my grandparents, from what my father told me. When we reached the hut, we headed inside and my mother was sitting beside my grandmother. My grandparents were holding onto one another's hand. Their eyes were closed, but they were squeezed tight, indicating they were in pain. I sat down in the middle of my grandparents. My grandmother opened her eyes and smiled.
"Y/N."
"Nana," I said, tears starting to stream down my face.
"It's going to be alright, Y/N," my grandfather said.
"No it's not, papa," I said. "You were with me ever since I was a baby. Everything is going to change."
"It is inevitbale, Y/N. A lot of changes are going to come your way and ya better be ready for them. One of them being your friendship with Odessa," my grandfather said.
"Y/N, my dear," my grandmother got my attention. "Do your best with her. If ya stay friends, then ya stay friends. If you're able to take that leap of faith with her, take it, my dear."
I nodded my head, "For you, nana, I will."
"Don't do it for me. Do it for you. Ya like this girl, don't ya?"
"Yes. She makes my heart race and makes life out here more bearable."
"Then do it because ya want to be with her, not because we want ya to be with someone," she smiled. "Remember this one important thing about a relationship, Y/N."
"Yes, nana?"
"Listen to her. Even in silent moments, listen to her. If there is anything ever wrong, be by her side and comfort her."
"Treat her as if she's your best friend, because she will be," my grandfather said. "Ya work as a team to get through the hardships, alright?"
"Yes, papa."
"Now go," he smiled.
They both closed their eyes and their hands became cold. Tears streamed down mother and father's face as well as mine. We sat there in a long silence before the healer came over and placed sheets over their faces. I left before they were cremeated, not wanting to watch them burn my grandparent's bodies. I headed back up to the house and to occupy my mind, I went to work on what I was going to make for Odessa. I finished it, but the joy I was feeling at the start was now gone. I set it on the work bench and headed back down to the healer's hut. My parents were still in there talking to the healer. Not wanting to go back in, I sat down on the stairs leading up to it, my face in my hands as I sobbed.
Coming over and sitting beside me, a hand was placed on my back and it started to rub up and down it. I thought it was my dad, but when I turned to look at who was beside me, it was Odessa. She had a somber look on her face as she opened her arms to comfort me. I practically jumped into her embrace, crying in her shoulder.
"Dez," I sobbed.
"Shh, shh, Y/N," she cooed, running her hand up and down my back, while the other dug into the back side of my head, her fingers getting entangled in my hair.
"They're gone, Dez."
"I know, Y/N. I know."
She moved me to where I was sitting in her lap, my legs wrapping around her waist. She held onto me tightly, not wanting to let me go. I didn't want to let go in fear I would unravel from everything. The door opened and my mother and father came out of the hut.
"Odessa," my father said.
"Hi, Mr. L/N."
"Are ya able to look after her for a bit?" he asked.
"It's no problem. I'll probably take her back to my place."
"Thank you, Odessa," my mother said. "It's going to be hard for Y/N to get used to being home without her grandparents."
"I understand," she said. "Loss is a hard thing to overcome."
"We're sorry about your losses," they said.
"Thank you," she said quietly.
My mother and father walked off and I was left in Odessa's embrace. She stood up and carried me back to her house. My eyes were puffy from crying so much that it made me tired.
"Ya tired, Y/N?"
I just let out a small 'uh-huh'. She patted my back before opening the front door to her house.
"I'll take care of ya tonight," she said.
