It was a long training process for Odessa to become faster as well as keep up her strength. Since word has gotten out within the Wastelands of what she did in the Burning Lands, that put more of a target on her back, especially the people who wanted to oppose her. It was mostly the boys I had trouble with coming back to see if everything was true or not. They did not get the message and it took them nearly thirteen years to finally understand the message.
"Alright, ready to get started?" I asked Odessa, patting her on the shoulder as we finished up the warm up session.
"Yeah," she said, standing up and stretching her neck a bit. "Let's get to work."
"Well, well."
We both turned to see it was the three boys who has caused us trouble since the very beginning. Even after Odessa returned from the Burning Lands, they were relentless on fighting her for the past years. Just hearing them with their snarky attitude made our blood boil. Odessa took a step forwards, hiding me behind her form.
"What the hell do ya want?" Odessa asked.
"Same as always," the main boy said.
"You're just a nonbeliever," I said.
"And what if I am? A lot of the people down there don't believe ya. What makes us any different?"
"You're constantly on my ass about it, fighting me to try to prove something. You've always lost again and again so how come you can't get the damn message?" Odessa asked, her hands forming into fists.
"Because I don't believe ya and I never will believe ya. The day I believe ya, is the day I die."
"That can be arranged," she said.
"Dez," I said, placing my hand on her arm.
She turned and whispered to me, "I'm actually not going to kill them. Unless they give me a reason to. I'm going to need your help."
"Count me in."
"It's three against two, you don't stand a chance. Especially with the cowardly one behind ya," the main guy said.
"If you're going to insult me," I said and pulled out my double swords. "Insult me with respect."
"Make me."
All three of them had bats, which was typical for people who weren't creative with their weapons. I came out from behind Odessa and she pulled out her gun and held Carnage in her other hand. The two came after us and I fought the one that was a bit scrawny while Odessa fought the one who was a bit more built. All the while, the main guy was waiting for an opening to strike either of us. But we were keeping our own, especially Odessa. She used Carnage to her advantage as well as her magnetic gauntlet, throwing all of them off guard, especially when Carnage's handle hit the guy in the back of the head.
"D-Dude, I-I don't think we should do this," he said.
"Nonsense," the main guy said, grabbing him by the back of his shirt, tossing him towards Odessa. "Fight like you mean it."
"You're telling the wrong person that," Odessa said and swung Carnage up, hitting the guy square in the face with the side of the axe.
He was sent flying backwards and landed in a pile of scrap parts. The main guy looked over and sighed, turning his attention back to Odessa.
"You're going to pay."
"Am I ? Or are you?" she asked, throwing Carnage at him, but he dodged.
The scrawny one was putting up a fight despite his size. I guess I couldn't judge a book by its cover. He swung at me with his bat, but I stuck one of the blades into the wood, making sure it was lodged in there pretty well before I surprised him. I dropped the hilts of the swords and merged them together, swinging the chain to where the bat was ripped out of his hands. Now that it was still connected to my blade, I was swinging it back and forth, trying to hit him with his own bat. With no weapon, his attacks got predictable. Using the blade that wasn't lodged into the bat, I swung it and nicked his cheek.
"Good thing it wasn't ya neck!" I smirked at him.
He backed away, and I used one of the hilts and got him in the crotch, making him fall over. I snickered and looked over at Odessa, who was struggling, but was still able to hold her own against him. I removed the bat from the blade and came after him, swinging my baldes back and forth, trying to connect with Odessa. He was skilled, unlike the other two, on keeping both of us back and getting in some decisive hits. He grabbed Gracie from the side of Odessa's leg and threw it at me. It lodged in my shoulder and I stumbled backwards due to the impact.
"Ya just made a bad mistake, buddy," Odessa said, grabbing her gun and shooting him in his leg.
She kicked him to the ground and bashed his face in with the butt end of her gun. Using her magnetic gauntlet, Carnage flew towards her and she smacked his head with the flat side of it. He fell backwards onto the ground, blood running down his face. Placing Carnage in the ground, she reached down and grabbed him by the shirt, holding him in the air.
"P-Please, mercy. Have mercy."
"I'd show ya mercy, but you don't deserve it from me," she said. "Let this be a lesson on never coming near either of us again. And if you so much as look at Y/N in the wrong way, all will be left of ya will be your corpse for the buzzards. Do I make myself clear?"
He nodded frantically and Odessa dropped him onto the ground. He scrambled to get up, grabbing the other two and stumbling out of the junk yard. Odessa rushed over to my side and looked at the knife in my shoulder.
"I-I'm alright," I said, looking at the worry on her face.
"Don't move," she said and lifted me up. "Let's get ya home."
She walked over, grabbed Carnage, and placed her gun in my bag before grabbing it. She carried me back to the house and when we reached it, headed inside and set me on the couch.
"This is going to hurt," she said as she wrapped her hand around the hilt of the knife.
"J-Just rip it out," I said.
"Here, hold onto my hand," she said and I reached down, grabbing onto her hand. "I'm going to pull on 3, alright?"
I nodded my head, bracing myself.
"1...2...3," she said and ripped the knife from my shoulder.
I let out a yell, squeezing her hand as tightly as I could, trying to ignore the pain. She grabbed a rag from the counter and covered up my shoulder. She took me down to the healer's hut where I got stitches. She had some cuts and scratches along her arm, which were taken care of, but she never left my side when I was getting my stitches in.
"Ya feelin' alright?" she asked when we made it back to my house.
"Y-Yeah. You?"
"I'm fine."
"Ya did good out there, holding your own," I said.
"So did you. Ya had a smart idea with lodging the blade into the bat to disarm him."
I chuckled, "Yeah, yeah, I guess I did."
Carefully, she pulled me into her side and patted my arm, "Ya did good out there, Y/N. Ya did good."
