Meri smiled, looking at Odessa before looking back at me, clearly seeing how she effected me and the look I held in my eyes.
"I can tell she'll do anythin' to keep ya safe."
"She has," I said. "When we were friends in the Wastelands, she would be there whenever I needed her. That was how we met, in fact. I was trying to get some scraps from the junk yard for my father. These boys who always caused me trouble came and tried to take the parts away from me, but Odessa came and fought 'em off. From there, we became friends and she helped me get by in the Wastelands, even without her being there."
"If anything, she'll always leave an impression on people."
"That being?"
"Well not only is she intimidating by how well built she is, if anyone dare lays a finger on ya, she'll be the first one to pound their head into the ground."
I chuckled, "She definitely will be."
"Now come on," Meri said. "We got to get ready. There are still things in here that need to be organized and what not."
"That's true," I said and started to get back to work.
I headed into the back where my father had this shelving unit. There was something that I needed to get, but of course it was on the top shelf. I knew climbing would only get me injured and the step ladder was no where to be found.
"Need some assistance, Y/N?" Odessa came over.
"Yeah. If you could reach that," I began.
"Hold on, I got an idea," she said and bent down, getting in between my legs.
"O-Odessa?" I asked as she stood up, lifiting me up on her shoulders.
I put my arms out, trying to prevent myself from falling.
"Got it?" she asked as she wrapped her arms around my thighs.
"Y-Yeah," I said, looking at the top shelf.
"Hope ya didn't mind me getting in between there," she chuckled nervously.
"J-Just warn me next time ya do that," I said, grabbing what I needed.
"Got what ya needed?"
"I got it."
"I'm gonna put my hands on ya waist," she warned me before doing so.
She lifted me off of her shoulders and set me down on the ground, "There we go."
"That's going to come in handy these days," I chuckled and walked back to my work bench.
"Say, Y/N," Odessa walked up beside me. "W-We never officially went out on a date when we were in the Wasteland. What do ya say we have a date night?"
I looked over at her and smiled, "I'd love to."
A wide and giddy smile appeared on her face, "G-Great. That sounds wonderful. I-I'll head out and find a place for us to go to tonight."
"Watch your step," Meri said, lifting her mechs arms high so that Odessa didn't knock her head into it as she wasn't paying any attention to where she was going.
"S-Sorry, Meri," Odessa said.
"Don't hurt yourself while you're out there, Dez," I chuckled, seeing that I too had a similar effect she had on me. This was actually the first time I had ever seen her this flustered.
"I'll try not to," she grabbed Carnage on her way out, disappearing into town.
"Is there something between you two?" Hammond's mech asked for him.
"Why do ya ask, Hammond?"
"There seems to be some chemistry between the two of ya."
"There's quite a lot of chemistry, actually," I said.
"So that implies you're dating."
"Yes."
"You've gotten together with the Queen?" Junkrat asked. "And this quickly?"
"We were together before she became the Queen of Junkertown. We met in the Wastelands."
"So you've known each other for a long time?"
"Yes. A very long time."
"Have you tied the knot yet?" Meri asked.
"That's gettin' a little too personal, Meri," I said.
"Sorry," she said.
"It's not that I don't trust ya guys, but I don't know if Odessa wants everyone in Junkertown to know. Especially now since she just became Queen and all. I'd rather let her focus on her duties before how the entire town sees her with someone of the same gender."
"That's going to be unavoidable if you two are goin' out tonight," Meri said.
"You have a point, but some people might just think it's two friends having a good time with one another. I hope that will be the case."
We got everything we needed to get done and we closed up shop. Odessa still wasn't back so I decided to head back to the house after locking the warehouse door. Jumping onto the balcony, I climbed up the stairs and unlocked the front of the door to see Odessa was sitting in the living room area.
"Dez, I didn't know ya came back here."
"I wanted to surprise ya, love," she stood up and walked over to me. "Ready to head out?"
"Y-Yeah. W-We're going now?"
"You bet," she smiled.
We walked out of the house and she locked the door. We walked down to the first balcony and we jumped off of it. Afterwards, I followed Dez as we walked back into town. She turned her head to see I was behind her. Smirking, she reached over and grabbed my wrist, pulling me towards her. Once I was beside her, she wrapped her arm around my waist.
"D-Dez?"
"What? Don't me touchin' ya out here?"
"N-Not really."
"I gotta show ya off somehow," she smirked once more. "Gotta let all of Junkertown know that if they mess with ya, they're going to be answerin' to their Queen."
I smiled, seeing her protective side come out. It was always there when we were in the Wastelands, but seeing it now in a larger group of people, it meant more that she wanted to make sure I was going to be alright. Besides, there were a lot more intimidating people. If I saw Roadhog on the street without knowing him, I'd be scared of him. But I think with people seeing Odessa now and how she fought in the Reckoning, they'd be intimidated by her. So now it plays in her favor.
"Dez?"
"Yeah, Y/N?"
"How do ya think the entire town will react to see you datin' someone of the same gender as ya?"
She threw her head out and barked out a laugh, "If they have a problem with that, they're gonna have to answer to me! I won't let anyone say anything bad about ya and our relationship. Ya hear me?"
I smiled and leaned into her side, "I hear ya, loud and clear, Dez."
