The next morning was when Odessa had addressed the entire town of where she had gone, but did not go into detail. It was during that was when the guys from a few days before had challenged her right then and there. The entire crowd thought they were out of their minds for wanting to challenge her right then and there, but Odessa just smiled at them and took on their challenge. However, they weren't going to fight in the arena, rather right there. She grabbed her gun and entered the crowd. The people there parted and formed a circle to enclose her and the three people that wanted to challenge her. Her magnetic gauntlet opened up and Carnage flew from where I was standing into her hand. The challenge was over in a matter of a few minutes, where she let them stay in Junkertown, but if they were to cause anymore trouble, they were going to be kicked out of the town. Since then, the crowd departed and I went down to join Odessa.
"Still got it," I smiled as she wrapped her arm around my shoulders.
"Can't really lose it since I've been fightin' for a long time," she chuckled.
"Dez, does your mother know you're back here safely?" I asked.
"I haven't seen my family in a long while."
"Why don't we go visit our families. Let 'em know about not only your return home, but our engagement."
"Your mother would lose her mind," she chuckled.
"Oh trust me, when you were gone, I went to go visit them and she asked me about having kids," I chuckled, but there was a silence followed by it. "Is something the matter, Dez?"
"When I was with Overwatch, there were many people that were injured due to the numerous amounts of enemies we faced. Some of them were adults, some were children, and some were babies. They were monsters to take a parent away from children and babies, but they were real terrors for taking the life of young children, even infants. It made me really think about something while I was there.
"There was this one incident where I needed to save a family. A mother, father, two young children, an infant, and one who was a teen. The father was protecting the two younger children while the mother was protecting the infant. The teen was doing what they could to make sure their family got out safely, but someone got through our defenses and killed the father. The two young children ran towards me and I fought off the person who broke through. However, they weren't alone.
"Someone flanked from the side and killed the two younger children. The teen tried to defend their siblings, but was unable to. The teen lost their life and it was just the mother and the infant. I shot the one I was fighting and ran towards the mother and the infant, but I was too late. The mother was stabbed in the chest, but I reached her before the attacker got even a second chance to strike her again. I stabbed the attacker in the neck and the mother's last words were to take care of the infant. I immediately returned back to headquarters and they took care of the infant. They're still taking care of 'er now as we speak."
I looked up to see that once fiery glow in her amber eyes were diminshed to what looked to be the embers of a dying fire. There wasn't anything behind them. I reached up and placed my hand on her cheek, making her look at me.
"Ya did all ya could, Dez. While you were unable to save the family, you were able to save one of their children."
She reached up and placed her hand on top of mine, "I wish I could have done more, but I have a debt to the mother."
"What are ya gonna do?"
"I wanted to talk to you about adopting the baby. I know we talked very lightly about it, but I thought that she'd be in good hands for now with Overwatch."
I nodded my head, "I'd love to give the baby a new home. A better one."
She smiled and kissed the palm of my hand, "Thank you, my princess."
"Now we can break that news as well," I smiled as we walked towards the gates of Junkertown.
While we were walking, she wrapped her arm around my waist and retold me all the interesting events of Overwatch.
"There's this one conversation I had with a doctor," she chuckled as she began. "It was her turn to make dinner and it was the first time I had eaten new things. So she set them down and it was mostly vegetables. So I looked over at the doctor and went 'Doctor, have I really got to eat vegetables? It's like, crunch, crunch, crunch! How long have I gotta chew these ?'"
I started to burst into a fit of laughter after she told me that conversation. So much so that I had to stop and was bent over. Tears slid down my face as I composed myself. I stood up, wiped the tears away, and smiled at Odessa.
"I wish I was there to have listened to that," I chuckled.
"Ya would have loved the people back at Overwatch. Maybe one day I can take ya to their headquarters and introduce ya to the people I know."
"I'd like that very much, Dez."
"But there are things we gotta do before we can make that happen. The biggest priority, is to finally get married after all this time."
The gates opened up and we were met with the Wastelands once more. We walked out together and headed towards my parent's house. While we were walking, the people in the Wastelands were looking at us, whispering about Odessa and from what I heard, they were talking about Overwatch.
"Do the people out 'ere know?" I asked.
"Word travels fast, especially when Overwatch came back together," Odessa said.
We walked up the familiar sand dune and we were met with the familiar motorcycle that was parked underneath that sheet of metal. I smiled to myself, feeling my heart race. Unconsciously, the pads of my fingers brushed over Odessa's. She reached down and intertwined her hand with mine. The door swung open and my father stepped outside of the house, picking his head up to look at us. A wide smile appeared on his face as we approached him.
"How long has it been, Queen of Junkertown?"
