Turning my head to look at Odessa's bare back, I got to see more scars she had sustained from her time away. I smiled to myself, remembering the time we had together last night. However, I saw she had her gaze fixated on something in the room.
"Dez, a-are you ok?"
"Carnage," she whispered.
"They sent it to the warehouse. There was blood on it and the blade was chipped. I cleaned it up and replaced the blade."
She moved to lay back down and she pulled me into the empty space beside her. I wrapped my arms around her neck and buried my face in the crook of it.
"That was what I wanted to tell ya about."
"About what?"
"Why Carnage arrived before I did. I was on a mission with one of the other members. We were doing patrols when we were ambushed. I did my best to protect them, but they were severly injured. I dragged them out of the line of fire and contacted healers that were in the nearby area. I went out and tried to fight them off by myself, but they proved to be too much. So I had to retreat. I dropped Carnage, due to it being slippery in my hands with all the blood. I left it there and grabbed my comrade, running back to where our outpost was.
"The enemy side grabbed Carnage and sent it to the Overwatch headquarters. They took that as a sign of a fallen member and sent it back to Junkertown. When I heard that they did that, I left and confronted headquarters. They thought I was an imposter and did various testing on me to prove that I wasn't one. After they did that, they decided it was time for my service at Overwatch to be suspended. They let me go and dropped me off in the Wastelands. That was fun walking through that part once more. All of them were wondering what I was doing out there, but I didn't have time to answer their questions. I had to return to Junkertown. To you."
I smiled, my grip around her getting tighter as I didn't want to let her go.
"Well, Junkertown surely was waiting for your arrival back."
She chuckled, "And I wouldn't have it any other way than to be greeted by my soon to be wife."
"I found your note a little too late."
"The one that was on my desk?"
"Yes. I should have read it sooner. Maybe I could have gotten some answers on why you were gone for so long."
"Hey, none of that matters now. I'm back with ya, that's all that matters," she said, wrapping her arms around me tightly. "I'm here, princess," she said and pressed a kiss to my forehead.
"I know," I smiled, closing my eyes, letting the tears fall once more as I got to feel her embrace after all this time had passed.
Unfortunately, our solitude didn't last long. There was a knock on the door and we both sighed, since we were both falling back asleep. Getting up, and taking the warmth with her, Odessa got up, threw on some clothes, and walked towards the door.
"Junkrat, what are ya doin' 'ere?" she asked.
"The town wishes to hear your tales from Overwatch. They want you to gather everyone up for a town meeting."
Odessa sighed and rubbed her hand against her forehead, "I am really not in the mood to do that right now, Junkrat. But I will eventually tell 'em, alright? Can ya tell 'em that?"
"You got it, milady!" he said and bounded off of the balcony.
She closed the door and walked back over to me, crawling back into bed.
"I wouldn't mind sleeping all day today," she sighed, pulling me back into her arms.
"Didn't get great sleep while you were gone?"
"No. I was up most of the nights doing patrols and missions with other people there. Not to mention I had to remember who everyone is. Do ya know how many names I had to remember? I had to remember about 30 of 'em! Thankfully I already knew Junkrat, Roadhog, and Hammond. But everyone else, that was a nightmare getting all their names remembered."
"Ya don't have to worry about it now, Dez. You can just focus on getting the much needed rest."
She exhaled in relief, "Yeah. Now that I have ya back in my arms."
I snuggled closer to her and listening to her easy breathing and steady heart beat was enough to lull me back to sleep. Which it did. I found myself falling back to sleep into what would be the best sleep I have ever had since Odessa left. Blinking my eyes open, I looked out the window to see the sun that was once there was replaced with the moon and the blue sky was now black. Getting up to retrieve my clothes, I put them back on and walked over into the kitchen to see Odessa was making something on the small stove. She turned her head and smiled at me. My vision finally clearing, I took note that her hair was down and out of her braids.
"Evenin', love," she smiled at me, kissing my forehead when I walked towards her. "Have a nice sleep?"
"Best ever since you were gone."
She let out a breathy laugh, "I know how ya feel. Ya must not have eaten well in a while, have ya?"
"I ate a little bit, but eating dinner alone just doesn't feel right."
"While I didn't eat alone, it surely was different not havin' ya beside me, but," she grabbed the tongs and took out whatever was on the pan and put them onto a plate. She scooped something out of a bowl and placed it onto the plate, handing it to me. "Now I can have ya beside me once more."
I took the plate and looked down to see the plate had a piece of chicken on it with some white stuff along with green flourets.
"When I was back at headquarters, I learned how to cook different things. I brought some of that back with me and I wanted you to try some of it as well," she said fixing a plate for herself. "I hope ya find it to be good. I-I tried my best to replicate how they made it, but we don't have a lot to work with."
I smiled, looking up at her, "I'm sure ya did your best." I leaned towards her and stood up on my tiptoes, kissing her cheek. "Thank you, Dez."
