"Your father told me you have something to tell me," my mother said as we were sitting by the campfire that was by the back part of the house.
The moon was high in the sky, but it was cloudy, unlike the clear night I had last night with Odessa. Speaking of Odessa, we were sitting beside one another having dinner. This was the first time she has eaten with us, but since it was late after a day of training, my mother thought it would be good to have her for dinner. It was about time.
I looked over in between my mother and father, before I set my gaze on my father, giving him the 'why did you tell her?' look. He gave me the 'because why not' look and gestured towards my mother. I looked over at Odessa who was confused with everything.
"W-What's going on?" she asked.
"My dad told my mum something that I was planning on telling 'er myself."
"And would ya care to tell me?" my mom asked.
I looked at the fire in between the four of us, not knowing what to say. However, Odessa knew exactly what to say in that time of silence.
"I kissed your daughter last night," she said in a deadpan expression and took a bite of her sandwich.
"Wow. Had to say it like that?" I asked and looked over at her.
"How did ya want me to say it?" she asked, chuckling slightly. "It's not really a surprise that you had feelings for me."
"Odessa's right," my mother said, not looking up at us as she took a bite from her sandwich.
"I take that my feelings were obvious?" I asked my mother, looking at her.
"I'm your mum, Y/N. I know things," she smirked and winked at me.
"What are your thoughts?" I asked.
"I was waiting for it to happen."
"There's nothing else to it?"
She looked and shrugged, "Not really. I'm happy for ya, yes, but what do ya want me to do? Jump up from my seat and shout into the heavens that my daughter found someone?"
"I guess not really. This wasn't the reaction I was expecting."
"What were ya expecting?"
"Like, 'Oh my gosh, Y/N! You and Odessa are finally a thing! I've been waiting so long for this to happen and I even bet your nana that it wouldn't happen in my lifetime with how Y/N gets her feelings out.' That sort of ordeal."
Odessa started laughing, so did my mother and father. I sighed, smiling and shaking my head. She reached over and pulled me into her side.
"It's alright, Y/N. Not everyone can hide their feelings well. There isn't anyone who can hide them as bad as you," she jokingly punched me in the side of my stomach. "That's one of the things I like about ya. You're geniune and have a strong compassion towards those you love."
I looked over at her, smiling, "Yeah. Yeah, you're right."
"Don't feel bad about it, Y/N," she smiled, pulling me closer to her. "Besides, they're your parents. They see things not even we do. It's like when I misplaced a shirt of mine and I asked my mum where it was and she found it almost immediately. It was right on the floor beside me," she chuckled.
I smiled, snickering, "You're that blind?"
"Not really," she said. "I just wasn't processing it that my shirt was right by my foot."
"We all have those days," I looked into her eyes, a glaze forming over as I looked into her amber eyes, making me gawk at her.
"I think we're going to turn in for the night," my mother and father said, getting up.
"You're welcome to stay the night, Odessa," my mother said before heading inside.
"Thank you, Mrs. L/N," Odessa said.
My mother walked inside and my father stopped at the door. I turned my head and he put his thumb up, winked, and headed inside. I quietly giggled before turning my attention back to Odessa.
"Y/N, if I may ask ya?"
"Of course, anything."
"How did ya know? How did ya know I was the one for you? Because it wasn't until we started training was when I knew you were the one for me. Well, I shouldn't really say the one since that doesn't really exist, but what I mean, how did ya know you had feelings for me?"
I smiled and took her hand in mine, "The night you saved me from those boys. The minute I looked into your eyes, I knew I had feelings. There was something captivating about them."
"Ya mean," she reached over, grabbing my chin, making me look at her. "Like this?" she asked, smirking.
"Um, y-y-y-yes," I stuttered, my heart beating faster, and my face getting warmer.
She chuckled darkly before leaning towards me, "Ya really do melt when I flirt with ya."
"W-What can I say?" I chuckled nervously.
"You don't have to say anything," she pecked my lips before pulling away. "Well, I should be heading home."
She stood up, but I reached up and grabbed her hand, "W-Why don't ya stay for the night? I know your house is right at the bottom of the sand dune, but it's still a far ways away."
"If ya want me to stay, why don't ya just ask to sleep with me."
"U-Um, I-I-I didn't mean it like that, D-Dez," I muttered.
She laughed at how I was becoming unraveled, "I know. I just like it when ya get like this."
I looked away from her, my cheeks turning red not from being flustered. She knelt in front of me and made me look at her, "Did I embarrass ya a bit?"
"A little bit," I said, hiding my face in my hands.
"I'm sorry, Y/N. I didn't mean to," she said, placing a hand on my shoulder.
"I know, but," I couldn't find the words.
"I know, Y/N," she pulled me into a hug. "I know."
I wrapped my arms around her and held onto her tightly. What did I do to deserve someone like her? What did I do to have her come into my life completely from left field and make such an impact on my life? What did I do to have someone like Odessa not only be a great friend, but create a blossoming relationship with?
