Once the work day was over and all the repairs and other orders were either finished or getting close to being finished, it was time to close up shop. The others went home, but I was still working on one of the customized weapons one of the teens asked. I wanted to work hard on this to get it finished since Odessa had trained them before she left to join Overwatch. I've met her a few times, but the times I have met her, Odessa treated her like kin. So I wanted to pay it forward since she wasn't here to do the same. Once I was putting on the finishing touches, a small gust of wind knocked over some papers that were on my desk. Bending over, I grabbed them and it was the blue prints to the magnet we had made back in the Wastelands. I chuckled and set it down on my work bench.
"Still hard at work?"
I looked over my shoulder, looking around to see no one was with me in the warehouse.
"Junkrat? Are you still in here?"
Silence.
Turning back to face the workbench, I continued to put on the finishing touches before grabbing the handmade case Meri had worked on putting together for it. There was even foam inside of it to keep it safe. I had to get the case Meri had made for Carnage since I wasn't able to carry it out in the open, unlike how Odessa would carry it over her shoulder and with one hand even. She truly was something, especially her strength. I missed her embrace at night since she has gone. Shaking my head, dismissing those thoughts, I walked over to Meri's work area and grabbed the case for Carnage and for the weapon I finished up.
"Ya really are something, being able to work this late into the night."
I turned around, seeing that no one was there. Breathing a little heavy now, I put the weapons in their cases and walked towards the doors of the warehouse. Opening the sliding door, I walked out, grabbed the cases, and closed the door, locking it before I walked off. Reading the small note I wrote down a piece of paper, it was the directions of where I needed to go to drop off the client's weapon. I reached their house and knocked on the door.
"Who's at the door?"
"I'll get it, ma," the door opened up to reveal a teen who had brown hair and glasses. She had a tank top on and shorts.
"Oh, Y/N, isn't it?"
"Yeah. You're Jay, right?"
"Yeah."
"Here ya are," I said and handed her the weapon's case.
"No way, ya got it finished?"
"Yeah, I worked long into the night to get it finished."
"Ya didn't have to do that, Y/N."
"I wanted to. I'm compulsive like that and besides, Odessa isn't here to give it to ya. I figured, I might as well pay her kindness forward since she's training ya. How have ya been since she left? Still keeping up with the training regiment?"
"Yeah. It's hard to do it without 'er, ya know. With 'er yellin' at ya and everything."
I chuckled, knowing what she means, "I hear ya."
"How are ya holdin' up without 'er 'ere? I know ya two are close, but I never got your relationship you two have. Are ya two close friends or something?"
"We are very close. A bit closer than what normal level of friends would be."
"I got ya," she said, nodding.
"Well, I should be off."
"Got another delivery?" she pointed to Carnage's case.
"Oh, no, it's-um," I looked down at the case. I sighed, "Do ya have a minute?"
"Yeah."
She closed the door and we sat on the small porch they had. I put the case out in front of us, bending over and unlatching the locks. I looked over at her.
"We got this in last night and it was this morning when I found out what it was. It needed to be repaired and fixed up. I wasn't expecting it to be this."
I opened up the case, revealing Carnage inside of it.
"Carnage?"
"Yeah."
"That means something happened to Odessa."
With a sad sigh, I closed the case and latched the locks. I sat up straight and looked over at Jay.
"Whatever happened to 'er, I hope she's ok. I don't think I can run Junkertown by myself and she is the queen of Junkertown. I can't do The Reckoning fights because I'll lose everytime and if and when she comes back, she'd have to fight for the title again. I don't want her to do that if she's alive."
"Hey, ya gotta have more optimisim for Odessa."
Jay was starting to sound like Odessa. She had her optimisim whenever it was needed. Not to mention she had styled her hair to resemble that of Odessa's. So it was really hard not to see Odessa in her.
"You're right, Jay. You're starting to sound like your mentor now," I chuckled.
I stood up, grabbed the case, and lifted it up, "Well, I've got to be heading back. I need to give Carnage a place back home where it can stay."
"Thank you for delivering my weapon, Y/N."
"I want to see how it is before Odessa does," I chuckled, walking back towards home.
"I will. Take care, Y/N," she waved.
I waved back and headed back home, switching the cases in between hands since Carnage and the case were heavier than I thought. It was probably better to carry Carnage by itself, but I didn't want to drop it and damage it even more. I lugged it onto the balcony and opened the door. Walking inside, I turned on the light and the small, dim lightbulb illuminated the house. Closing the door, I walked over to my bedroom and slipped off my shoes. Lifting up the case Carnage was in and opening the locks, I opened up the case and grabbed Carnage with two hands, walking over to Odessa's side of the bed. I placed it against the wall and sat down on the edge of the bed, looking at it sit in the corner. It was going to collect dust, but I promised that I would dust it everyday so it wouldn't get too dusty. Letting out a sigh, I fell backwards onto the bed and looked at the ceiling.
"Where are ya, Odessa?" I asked myself before closing my eyes, feeling warmth coming onto my hands.
