I stood outside the door, taking in a deep breath and releasing it. Raising my shaking hand, I knocked on the door.

"Come in," her voice rang.

I grabbed the door knob, my hand trembling still, and I turned it, opening it. Walking in, I looked over to see the mess she was in. Her mohawk wasn't as neat and tidy as it used to be. There were some strands of hair that were falling down in front of her face, similar to like how she styled her hair when we were living in the Wastelands. Her amber eyes looked up. For a split second, they looked dull, gray, desaturated almost. But as soon as she met mine, they lit up. They were full of life. They were that beautiful, vivid amber color I remember. Seeing the color return was just enough to get my heart pounding and causing the return of the butterflies in my stomach.

"Y/N," she said, a smile appearing on her face.

She stood up, trying to brush her hair back to where it looked fine. Walking towards me, she met me in the middle of the throne room. I still didn't have the courage to look her in the eyes this way. Instead, she knelt down and looked into my eyes from there. Reaching up, she placed a gentle hand on my cheek, caressing my skin with her thumb.

"I'm happy to see you're ok," she said quietly.

"I am too."

"Do ya want to talk in here or in the bedroom?"

"Bedroom, if you're ok with that."

"Doesn't bother me," she stood up, holding out her hand.

I reached over and took her hand, intertwining it with mine. We walked out of the throne room and into the bedroom. She sat on the edge of the bed and I sat beside her, not looking into her eyes still.

"I'm sorry, Odessa."

"Love, why are ya apologizing?"

"I just felt really terrible after I told ya I was scared of ya. And spending so much time away from one another to just gather my thoughts, I was afraid of the person we'd both become. I know how ya are with losing people closest to ya. And I just feel like I broke my promise to ya when we got married."

"Oh, Y/N," she said, placing her hand on top of mine. "We all have our bad days with one another. It's not like we're goin' to get along everyday. While I do appreciate how easy goin' ya are, your thoughts and opinions matter as well. Ya didn't break your promise to me. I didn't either. Ya were just scared of what I am capable of doin' is all. I don't blame ya one bit."

"A-Are ya sure, Odessa?"

"Of course, Y/N. I've come to terms with how I fight and how ruthless I can be at times. But there was one thing I thought of. I am merciful when I need to be. But when it comes to ya and your safety, I put mercy behind me. Would I kill someone if they put ya in danger, I might. But I want to make sure you're in a safe place before I do. I just wanted to do everythin' in my power to make sure you're safe because that is probably the one thing I can control in this world."

She reached over and cupped my cheek with her hand. I finally looked over at her, feeling her love coming from just her eyes alone. Placing her other hand on my cheek, I finally felt the warmth coming from her. I smiled slightly, leaning into her touch. She smiled at me, tears forming in her eyes.

"I almost lost ya. I don't want to ever lose ya again."

Tears slid down from both of our eyes. Using her thumbs, she wiped away my tears before pulling me onto her lap, embracing me in a tight yet comforting hug.

"I'm sorry that I scared ya, Y/N. I-I'll try not to anymore."

"No, no. Please, if ya need to do what ya need to do, by all means do it no matter what. I-I should have known or expected something like this to happen. I just never thought you'd get so protective over me. I know ya are, but seeing it like that is on a different level."

"I'll do my best to try not to scare ya, Y/N. Of all the people you shouldn't be afraid of, it shouldn't be the ones ya care about and love. But know this," she pulled away and placed her thumb and index finger underneath my chin, making me look at her. "I will do what I can in my power to protect ya and ensure you're safe. Even if it means being a little scary here and there. If ya ever feel like you're getting scared because of what I'm doin', please let me know so we can prevent this from happenin' again."

I nodded my head. She smiled, pressing her forehead against mine, "I love ya, Y/N. Not being with ya for a while was different than the times we were actually separated from one another."

"Well, we can catch up for lost time," I said, pushing her to the mattress, snuggling close to her.

She chuckled, her arms wrapped tightly around my waist, holding me close to her, probably the closest I will ever be to her. I buried my face in the crook of her neck, taking in her aroma once more after I haven't been with her in such a long time.

"Did ya tell Jay what was goin' on?" she asked.

"Yeah I did. The morning after ya came here, I told her what was goin' on. She continued to train even if ya weren't there."

"Wonder where she gets that from," she chuckled.

"She did that even when you were gone to help Overwatch."

"Really?"

"Yeah. Wonder where she got it from."

Odessa laughed, brushing her fingers through my hair, "Guess she got it from me. But she could have gotten it from the both of us."

"Dez, I've only met Jay once or twice before ya left for Overwatch."

"So?"

"She could have only gotten it from ya since she knew ya longer."

"Ya got a point," she said, causing me to chuckle.

I missed this. I missed being her with and everything about her. I guess I just missed Odessa.
