Waking up on Odessa's arms was something I surely missed. Feeling her warmth and comfort coming from her, made me wrap my arms around her tighter, not wanting to let her go. She stirred and rolled onto her back, her arms wrapping around me to make sure I moved with her. I rested my head on her chest and admired her sleeping form before falling back asleep, getting used to the feeling of being held by her once more.
A few hours passed and I felt myself being moved once more. I turned my head over my shoulder as I watched Odessa sit on the edge of her bed, her hands running through her hair. Moving closer to her, I wrapped my arms around her waist, burying my face in her back.
"Morning, Y/N," she said, reaching over and brushing her hands through my hair.
"Morning," I said.
"While I was out there, in the Burning Lands, I realized something. It made me think back to what ya said. About me being the one to take on Mason."
"Dez, I was saying that in the heat of the moment."
"But you're right, I am the one to take on Mason, but while I am the only one strong enough, I'm not fast enough."
I looked into her amber eyes as she looked down at me.
"I've trained ya to become stronger. Do ya think you can help me train to become faster?"
I smiled, nodding my head, "Of course, Dez. I'll do anything to help ya reach Mason."
She rubbed my head, "Thank you, Y/N. Let's get started shall we?"
"Can I have five more minutes with ya?"
"Of course," she said and laid back down next to me, pulling me into her arms.
Unfortunately, five minutes ended up being another hour before Odessa got up, dragging me with her. We headed up to the sand dune and I grabbed what I needed to help train with her. Afterwards, we headed to the junk yard and began working on our warm up sparring. Ever since she left, she had started to fight harder and stronger. She wasn't holding back and I think it scared her a little bit when we were fighting.
"Ya don't need to hold back against me," I said as we were taking a break.
"I'm afraid I'm going to hurt ya unintentionally. That's why I want to hold back."
"But ya don't need to. Are ya going to hold back once ya get in there?"
"No, because I know it won't be you I'm fighting against."
"If you're not going to hold back there, then don't hold back here. Ya have to be at the top of your A-game to do this."
She nodded and we did another round of warm up sparring. Afterwards, I got her doing some endurance training before we tested her limits on how fast she can run and for how long she could continue to run without needing a break. So we ran around the junk yard a bit for endurance build up before we ran into the sand dunes. She only made it to the oasis before needing a breather. I sat beside her as she rested, trying to catch her breath.
"Not bad for just starting out," I said, handing her some water after I filled it up from the oasis.
"This is not going to be fun," she chuckled, taking a long drink.
"Training to get stronger wasn't fun either," I chuckled. "Even when you were gone I tried to get stronger, but I wasn't able to."
"Why's that?" she asked.
"I had you there training with me. I always had ya rooting for me, trying to get me to push past my limits either it be doing the rep once more, but trying to go faster. Or holding a position for as long as I could before collapsing. You were there to motivate me, give me a reason to continue to train. But when ya left and I continued to train by myself, you weren't there to motivate me. Sure, I heard ya in my head, but not having ya there with me, makes all the difference."
"I didn't think I had a big impact on how we trained together," she said. "But I guess there is some truth to it when it comes to you training me."
I snickered, "Just like how you were my biggest motivator, I'll become yours."
She turned and looked at me, smiling, "Thank you, Y/N. I really couldn't ask for a better person to be with."
"Neither could I," I said and pecked her lips.
We got up after a while of resting and we ran back to the junk yard. Odessa tried to keep a steady pace beside me, but when we were getting closer and closer to the junk yard, she put in her all and pulled ahead of me. And I was going at my fastest during the entire time we were running together. She stopped at the gates and waited for me to reach her.
"Nice one," I breathed out.
"T-Thanks," she said, trying to catch her breath.
"Come on," I placed my hand on her back, leading her over to where we trained.
She sat down on the makeshift bench the two of us made and I handed her the water from the oasis. She took a long drink from it before setting the bottle down beside her.
"We're probably going to work more on endurance than anything," I said as I sat on the other side of her. "Work on that before working on getting faster. The more endurance ya have, the faster you can become as well as go for longer periods of time without needing a break."
"I can't believe you can run as fast as ya can," she breathed out.
"How do ya think I got to that point?" I laughed, nudging her in the side.
She smirked, "Like that time I made ya run through the central area."
"Maybe I'll get back at ya for doing that to me without a warning" I chuckled.
"Whatever you say goes. You're the one training me here, not the other way around like how it was before."
I nodded my head, "Yeah."
