TW: How each girl developed their addiction, but it mainly focuses on how they came into Maiya's life

AIMIE

Maiya and Aimie met at one of Aimie's concerts. One she did with her then-girlfriend, Genesis (whom she soon broke up with anyway). Maiya adored Aimie's style and voice, and it only helped the sparks fly when she managed to meet Aimie once again by chance with her then-roommate, Millie and took her out on a date. She'd thanked Millie profusely for bringing her home (apparently Millie found her crying on the streets, a coincidence), and felt like it was meant to be. Especially after her break up with Sam who'd already lost her mind. But Maiya was unaware of the trauma Aimie gave, and the trauma Aimie faced. She never bothered to ask Aimie what caused her to break up with Genesis (which she regrets not doing to this date). Sam never warned her. Why would she? She was already miffed that Maiya left her for her cousin, so why was she expected to warn Maiya of the trouble she was getting into? Aimie was fine at first (pfft, they always say that), but her true colours started to shine through (to Sam's delight, surprisingly) and soon Maiya found herself in a well, unable to climb out. It wasn't what Aimie was doing to her that was the issue (well it was) but the fact that Aimie had no idea at all, and Sam was that girl who just watched and laughed. And Aimie laughed with her because she had no clue. Millie realised that, in the end, Aimie was giving Maiya only five percent of what she'd been through, yet Maiya had already enough and was wanting out (to Sam's delight once again). So that was two relationships in a row which had been sliced because of addictions. Maybe it's in their bloodline.

SAMANTHA

Maiya met Sam when Millie set them up on a date. Back to the happy days when Maiya and Millie were both in a fabulous show, Rent, and had everything going for them. Sam was a swing; an alternate, and occasionally had to play that role of Joanne (Maiya felt the jealousy rise every time she watched her perform Take Me or Leave Me, which made Millie want to make her even more jealous out of spite), and Maiya's jealousy (it was harmless envy, don't fret) was so painful to watch that the least she could do (apart from flirting with her on purpose) was to set her and Maiya up on a date. All was going for them until Sam shifted to a dark place in her life. Coming out to her family was a nightmare. The only person who accepted her was her cousin, Aimie (yes, the one Millie found, and yes, Maiya's new crush) who'd been rejected by her family already. Work wasn't happening, and Sam saw no success. Confusing, since it's hard to come across someone with a voice like hers. Maiya was unhappy. She was unhappy. Millie made them separate: the best decision. Until they realised that Sam had nowhere to go, and all spiralled down from there. Sam's jealousy and resentment towards Maiya that she'd been outdone by her cousin ticked her off, but the fact that she couldn't even display her resentment because the door was only so far away from her was what made her blood run cold. She had to grin and bear it because there was nothing else, she could do. She'd messed up a relationship with a gorgeous girl, and then allowed her to dive into a relationship which then end up in the same way. But of course, to Sam, she deserved it. To Sam, Maiya was a bitch. A fucking bitch. A [insert every swear word applicable in the book] of a bitch. But Maiya was only trying to save her skin. And she couldn't even do that?

NATALIE MAY

Maiya met Natalie in sixth form when she moved to theatre school. Pendleton. Calm. Collected. Natalie made a great friend to talk to, and hang around with. Unfortunately, when they left, they parted and went their own separate ways, both with no regrets about their friendship, but no motivation to stay in touch. They never thought their paths would cross again, quite frankly. But they did. Maiya found herself seeking advice about her life advancements from a friend whom she hadn't spoken to in six years. Six years doesn't sound like a lot, but so much had happened in the short space of time to make it feel like a century. And Natalie couldn't believe what she was hearing. She knew Aimie. They went to primary school together. She had no idea about the stuff Aimie was exposed to when she wasn't at school. Of course she wasn't.

"I didn't go to her house" was the only thing Natalie could recall.

Maiya became more reliant on Natalie and her advice, so much so that they became even closer than how they'd been before. No one could advise Maiya better than Natalie herself, so even if it was a will of hers, she had no choice. Maiya suddenly felt like she was no longer a burden on Millie, and that she'd finally found someone else to talk to. Not that Millie felt the same way, because Maiya pushed her slightly out of her comfort circle, but Millie didn't feel that offended by it, considering all the other people in the house who were vying for Maiya's attention but received none. Like Sam and Aimie who were both lovesick for Maiya, which didn't make Millie feel that bad about herself after all. That was, until Natalie started to feel the effects of being surrounded by people like Jaye'J and Aimie for the majority of her time. Maiya lost another good friend to the power of addiction.
