Imagine being in 2022 (pfft, Americans) (this is a joke I promise this is a joke slay americans)

TW: MACE AYYY, a continuation from They love me They love me not although I probably twisted a few facts around, poor Aimie, ace Maiya, goth head girl Millie, loved up Jane, sorry I meant Natalie, Grace is always the new girl in these stories, typical aimie being responsible over millie (pfft, Millie being responsible? what is that?), MillJaye broke up btw sorry, Scottish Grace, tall Millie yeah okay you understand the gist

RELEVANT TW: In this story, everyone has a ring which determines how far they are from meeting their soulmates. I don't remember how it works but hopefully it's explanatory in the story. But yeah it's white and then it turns pink or smth idk it's midnight help me

Millie lay on the floor, sucking a lollipop, completely ignoring what her younger cousin was talking about. Her mind was too centred on the stress of taking the new girl around the school. As head girl, she had her duties which she was expected to fulfil.

"Don't be rude. Don't be mean. Don't lock her in a cupboard."

"Yeah, yeah," Millie rolled her eyes, rolling on the floor. "I didn't ask to have this position. I just wanted to be a normal kid."

"Smart children are normal, you know."

"Why am I listening to my baby cousin?"

"I'm all of nine months younger than you. NINE MONTHS MI-"

"Yeah okay, okay. Can you drive me to school now?"

Aimie looked at her in disdain.

"Get a driver's licence."

"I can't get one right now, can I?"

"Well hurry up then."

Aimie pulled her up, dragging her to the front door. "Get in the car."

"What about my school bag?"

"Get it yourself!"

"What?"

----

"Imagine, just imagine, if the new girl is Grace," Maiya laughed, playing with her blue ring.

"Aimie would be so pissed."

"She wouldn't come back, would she?"

"You never know."

The three girls walked into the school building.

"I still haven't found my soulmate yet," Millie sighed, her ring glowing white.

"It's alright, neither have I, or Maiya," Jaye'J assured, putting her arm around her ex's waist. "Natalie's all loved up."

"Mhm, ever since she was in year twelve. It's not fair!"

"Hey, you're bound to find someone," Maiya said.

"Why aren't you pressed about being single? Wait, why is yours blue? I never asked but you know what? I want to know now."

"I'm not affected by not having someone to be with," Maiya explained. "And that, dear Millie, is called being ace. I like being single."

"Mhm, sure," Millie giggled.

"Didn't you have a crush on Grace?" Jaye'J accused, and Maiya blushed.

"No! It was an obsession! If you're on the topic of crushes, talk about Aimie."

"And basically half our year. She was that hot girl everyone wanted," Millie justified. Jaye'J scoffed. "What?"

"Nothing," she smiled, throwing her books in her locker. "But Aimie would be highly upset."

"Why?" Maiya asked.

"You don't remember? Grace pledged to be Aimie's one true love when she moved back to Scotland and then broke it off the next month.

"She cried for weeks," Millie added. "It can't be Grace, or else they wouldn't ask me to show her around."

"With this renovated building, I think they would."

"Why would she come back anyway?"

"Parents' jobs, preference for London... dunno."

The bell sounded, and Millie picked up her bag. "Guess I'll see you both period three," she sighed, ruffling Maiya's hair.

"Hey! I straightened it," Maiya grumbled, combing through her long light hair with her fingers.

"Sorry Mai," she giggled, sharing a hug with Jaye'J. Jaye'J wrapped her arms around her waist.

"Have a great time," she giggled.

"Mhm, yes, missing geography, my fave," Millie shed, pressing a kiss on Jaye'J's cheek, and then on Maiya's. "See you both," she said, pulling away and walking in the direction of the principal's office.

----

"Grace Mouat, this is the head girl of our school, Emilia O'Connell," the headmistress introduced, gesturing to Millie who waved awkwardly. Her heels in addition to her tall height made her tower precariously over the other people in the room,

Grace smiled, nodding in acknowledgement of Millie's crucial position in the school community. Not the headmistress knew of their previous acquaintance.

"Emilia, I will allow you to take Grace around the school building. I expect you to return back to your class for form time. To clarify, Grace has been placed in your form," the head informed. "You may begin your tour."

Both young adults walked out of the room. As the door closed, Grace leapt at Millie.

"Millie! It's been long, hasn't it!" she exclaimed, and the two shared a hug. "You're so tall..."

Millie giggled. "Well, what do you expect? How are you?"

"Great, yeah... really good. Didn't know you were emo," she said, referring to Millie's gothic style which she had developed during Grace's hiatus.

"How was Scotland?" she asked in her best attempt at a Scottish accent. "You've developed a slight accent but it isn't as good as mine."

Grace rolled her eyes. "Yeah, of course, no one beats your accent," she agreed sarcastically. "How's Aimie?" she inquired.

"She's doing well, yeah."

"That's great!"

The two spent some silence walking down the corridor, letting the nostalgia sink in.

"Mil," she piped up. "Who's your soulmate?"

"I haven't found mine yet," Millie sighed. "Nat found hers a month after you left and she literally never shuts up about it."

"What do you mean you haven't found yours? Your ring is pink," she said, pointing to her left hand. Millie glanced down, her mouth hanging open.

"Woah- wait- shit- huh- yo- hang on- bitch what?"

Grace giggled at her reaction. "Just changed?"

"Mhm, but I haven't met anyone new other than you... was yours pink beforehand too?"

"What do you mean- wait- WOAH- no..." Grace said, looking down at her ring, which had changed colour without her noticing.

"Are we- wait... no... it can't be..."

"Just say it and see if it turns red."

"Grace is my soulmate," Millie stated, and both their rings snapped red. Grace's mouth hung wide open, and Millie was jumping about.

"There's no way," Grace stood in shock, a smile growing bigger and bigger on her face. Millie jumped at her, wrapping her arms around her neck.

"Yes, there is," she giggled, nearing their faces. "We have to kiss to make it for real," she reminded, resting a finger under Grace's chin. "Kiss me," she said, and Grace's lips attached to hers quickly.

"I know the school. Can we just... make out for the next hour?"

"I was going to ask you the same thing!"
