"Shut up!" Millie groaned, smacking the hell out of her alarm clock. It glowed '25th December', making Millie groan more.

She had been looking forward to the perfect Christmas, spending it with her family. Only her family. Everyone else seemed to have their own plans.

Millie had been on the floor heartbroken. It wasn't fair, watching Maiya, Grace, and Aimie spending their Christmas with their loved ones, or their boyfriends for that matter.

Her mother suffered from severe asthma, meaning that unfortunately, Millie couldn't visit her because of the pandemic.

Millie felt a tear roll down her cheek. Being alone in her home was not how she envisaged her Christmas to go. She was a people person. She hated being alone. Seeing everyone around her happy only made her feel worse.

She got up from her bed, wiping her tears. She had to get on with her day no matter what.

----

She finished breakfast, cleaning her plate and putting it to the side. After refraining from checking her phone, she knew she had to wish all her friends and family a merry Christmas, not that it was merry.

As she swiped in, her phone immediately began to ring.

"Hey," she said, placing her phone to her ear.

"Millie! Merry Christmas baby!"

Millie smiled to herself. Hearing Aimie's warm voice through the phone made her feel a tinge of happiness. At least she hadn't disappeared entirely.

"Morning Aim, merry Christmas to you as well! How are you?"

"Feeling festive," she said, her signature giggle following. "How about you baby?"

"I'm great!" Millie lied. She sighed afterwards, making Aimie concerned.

"You sure sweetie?"

"Yeah, yeah! Got a few friends over soon, so, yeah..." she lied. Aimie let go.

"Sounds great! Alright, I have to go, babe. I don't think I can rely on John for the Christmas lunch. Love you so much babe. We'll talk later baby. Bye Millie!"

Aimie hung up, leaving Millie with herself once again.

"I guess there are good things about being alone at Christmas... you get time to yourself, you don't have to deal with all the mess which comes with it... but isn't that the fun-"

Millie was cut off by her phone ringing once again.

"Another happy person wishing me Christmas?" she thought, accepting the call. "Hi?"

"Millie... Millie where are you?"

"Who's this?" she asked, pulling the phone away from her ear to check the caller ID. "Jaye'J?"

"Mhm. Grace said you're spending Christmas alone... is that right?"

"Yeah. I can't go back home because my mum's sick, and... you know about..."

"Yeah, no don't worry. I was just going to say, I'm alone as well. It's the same situation as you. Do you wanna come over? I guess it's nice with any number bigger than one," she suggested. Millie smiled.

"I- really?"

"Yeah. Let's face it, I can tell how miserable you are. You love Christmas more than anything, and I could only imagine how upset you are."

"I hate to admit it but yeah, I kind of am."

"Well come over then! I'll order a curry since my local takeaway isn't shut for Christmas."

"Okay, I'll be over."

Millie hung up, feeling a sense of excitement well up in her stomach.

---

"Millie! Jaye'J exclaimed, opening the front door and burying Millie in a hug. "How are you babe?"
