As soon as they were dismissed, she shot out of the school building, running as fast as her little legs could take her back home. When she reached, she threw herself through the door, slamming it behind her.

"ELLIS!?" she shouted. Ellis ran down the stairs, noticing his younger sister panicking, in tears. He picked her up, taking her to her bedroom.

"Hey, what happened?" he asked, wiping her tears with his thumbs.

"They threatened to beat me up," she sobbed, clutching his shirt in her little fists.

"Who?"

"Jackson and his friends. They stole my hat and when I asked for it back he threatened to beat me up."

He stroked her head, unbuckling her little shoes and chucking them to the side. Her short legs wrapped around his waist.

Ellis shook his head. "Tomorrow, I'll walk you to school and tell them off. They-"

"But they'll bully me more if you come and tell them off!"

"I'll speak to the teachers then."

She continued to sob to her brother, Ellis helplessly calming his baby sister to sleep.

No one would contradict you if you labelled Ellis as the most protective older brother ever, because it was true. No one who had had any interaction with the brother-sister duo would be able to say other than Ellis worrying over his younger sister 24/7: how she was doing at school all the way to her nightmares. Ever since they were little, she had been Ellis' number one priority.

They were around each other all the time, but they still managed to never get enough of each other.

The family sat around the table, a pile of letters sitting in the middle of it.

"Make it or break it," her father said.

"Let's hope I make it," Millie sighed, picking up the envelope on top of the pile, and slicing it open. "It's Bird College."

"Good luck," Ellis whispered, sitting beside her. She shuffled the letter out of the envelope, unfolding it tentatively.

Her large eyes scanned the sheet, reading through the paragraphs of small text. Her family kept a close eye on her facial expressions.

"Well?" her mother asked, when Millie still hadn't spoken up.

"I think I got in... it's talking about the course and stuff," she said, squinting. "I can't be sure, though."

"What's the first thing it says?"

"Oh... We are proud to offer you a place- Okay so I got in!" she squealed, jumping up and down.

"Well done Millie," Chris smiled at his daughter.

"Next one! Next one!" her mother said, handing up another envelope. She took it in her hand, slicing it open with the letter opener.

"Arts Educational Schools," she said, unfolding the letter. This time she didn't take as long to locate the deciding sentence. "I made it!" she shouted. Ellis patted her on the back.
