TW: Part 2, icr if I said this earlier but a lot of this is references to 'By Chance', especially Millie and Maiya, no real triggers tbh, sorry for not updating
JAYE'JJaye'J was a bright little girl. She always did well in class, as did Maiya. They'd both selected entirely different GCSEs (EdExcel, blessing or a curse?), but they still had so much in common, and so much to talk about. They became considerably close by the time Year 11 slowly ended and they pledged to be with each other every step of the way from then on in their lives. However, Jaye'J had a secret. She also had dreams to go into theatre and acting, but her parents didn't approve. So she left them, voluntarily. Left them for Maiya, because Maiya would help her. Maiya would support her and get her through life, and be the family which her own parents failed to be. But unfortunately, Jaye'J relied on Maiya slightly too much. So much so, that Maiya lost her freedom. She was lucky Jaye'J hadn't moved in. Well, she was lucky until she moved in. Now five people were living in her apartment. But Maiya didn't mind that. She felt good after helping people, and she was helping so many in one go. Jaye'J started doing everything together (Maiya forgot about Millie for a while, but Millie didn't mind). They did shows and gigs and went out to parties, even though neither of them was the party type. They gossiped about god knows what, both day and night, and they became very close. Jaye'J had been exposed to a lot of harm, which inevitably brushed off onto the rest of the household. Drinks and vaping, the whole lot. She didn't indulge excessively, but she knew what it was about and what her friends thought of it all. Maiya believed that the rest of them were mature enough to know right from wrong, and ignore the bad habits Jaye'J was setting them up for, taking her words with a pinch of salt. But for the first and most crucial time of all, Maiya was wrong.

MILLIE
Millie was the closest in age to Maiya. They were both in the same class at school and took the same lessons. They stuck by each other ever since Year 8 and made it to where they were now. Millie was a small, quiet girl with little to no friends whatsoever, often bullied by 'popular' girls. She never talked about herself, and only talked to people when she really really had to. Maiya thought she was gorgeous just from seeing her for the first time but decided not to dwell on someone who probably didn't even want to interact with her. But little did she know, Millie was vying for someone's attention; Maiya's specifically. There was an aura around her which made her seem so majestic in Millie's innocent eyes. So Millie went out of her way to impress Maiya. Trying to make her laugh and smile, and being as genuine and sincere as she could. And Maiya fell for her little trap. Maiya fell in love with Millie's gorgeous nature- how sassy she was, even though she rarely spoke. How she didn't care when she was bullied and sexualised by the older boys around her. Maiya loved how deceiving she was. How she seemed so vulnerable, but could easily shut someone up with a roll of the tongue. Soon they became inseparable. Maiya and Millie, Millie and Maiya. You couldn't say one without referring to the other as well. Because the pair loved each other to death. Even now, Maiya and Millie were close. Very close. They had shared an apartment together. Shared a room. At one point, even a bed. They spoke to each other as lovers did, their kisses and I love you's only promoting their deeply entwined friendship, except each other's partners. Maiya was always aware of Millie's eating disorder, no matter how blind she'd acted. She knew why she always wore coats in summer, and why her clothes were always baggy. But she didn't want to say anything in case it made her feel uncomfortable. It took so long to pry her open, just to draw the blinds down again. She didn't want to be that girl, to say "I love you. You're perfect. Now change." So Maiya silently accepted and protected her. Well, that was, until she found out about the pills.

GRACE
Maiya met Grace at school as well, but the two had met each other even before beginning secondary. They'd promised each other to be for-lifers, BFFs, together-forevers. They even pledged to marry each other at some point in their lives, although that promise wasn't kept, blatantly. They, like Maiya and Millie, were inseparable. They knew everything about each other, and they couldn't be without each other's company for more than a few days at the longest. Even when Grace flew out to South Africa for university, they still called each other every single day and were never once lost for words at what to talk about. However, when Maiya started meeting other people, like Aimie and Sam, Grace started to feel a twinge of neglect, or jealousy, or just plain betrayal. She was no longer her number-one best friend, and that hurt a lot for Grace. It wasn't even gradual. One new person one day, and then another the next, and soon Maiya was accidentally pushing Grace out of her life altogether, and Grace felt that. Maiya didn't even realise it for herself until they hadn't spoken for up to three months. Only then did it hit her how unkind she'd been to her best friend; those words she said couldn't convey her deepest apologies. In compensation, all Grace wanted was to be loved by someone who used to love her as much as she did beforehand, and with all the commotion happening at home, Maiya couldn't think of how she was meant to fulfil grace's wishes. She wanted to be a good friend, but it wasn't coming across as so from anyone's point of view. So, just like everyone else, Maiya decided to take Grace in, and live together. Because you can't get furthest away from someone if you stay in the same home. And Grace took her offer and made a home in Maiya's. It wasn't an inconvenience, to say the least, especially because Maiya and Millie were moving to a bigger house rather than a flat anyway, and the more people the better. Grace found happiness being in the company of other people. Well, that was until Jaye'J's ways and Aimie's childhood began to rub everyone in the wrong way.
