Jasmin groggily opened her eyes. Her scales felt sticky with salt, and cold ocean water washed over her body.
Where am I? Jasmin thought. Long, wet strands of seaweed stuck to her wings. She irritably tried shaking them off, and when that didn't work, Jasmin had to peel the seaweed off her wings and unwrap it from her horns.
How did I get here? She wondered. A sudden pain pulsed through her head and the hybrid rubbed her temples, trying to ease her severe headache. Jasmin remembered how she'd plunged in the crashing waves, trying to float on the tree that had caused her to almost drown.
How was she was even alive? Her head was aching from thinking so much.
After her headache had eased to a dull throb, Jasmin peered around. She was behind a large rock, next to a pile of seaweed. She peeked over the rock.
Two dragons, one an elegant caterpillar green, another dark blue and orange. They were looping through the stormy sky, and faint laughter reached Jasmin's tired ears.
It wasn't the fact that two dragons were playing in such harsh weather that she found them so strange; it was because they each had two pairs of large, vibrant wings, one overlapping another, smaller one. Their wings looked like a butterfly's, but they were beautiful.
"What in all of Pyrrhia?" Jasmin muttered to herself, rubbing her eyes to make sure that the salt in them weren't making her see things. Four wings? She'd gone to almost the entire continent, thanks to her job, and she had never seen a single dragon that looked like this.
They didn't look like hybrids, just...extremely large and beautiful butterflies.
Perhaps Jasmin was on another island. Or a whole different continent, full of butterfly dragons. A sudden commotion interrupted her thinking. Three new dragons, their yellow bodies striped with black, had approached the flying dragons, their bee-like wings buzzing furiously.
One of the butterfly dragons, the green one, let out a scream as the patrol started attacking them, and Jasmin watched in awe and shock as fiery strands of fire twisted out of her wrists, heading straight at one of the attacking dragons.
