"Did you fall asleep waiting for me again?" Jasmin blinked awake to find herself in the rainforest. She was in front of the tunnel to the Kingdom of Sand again, and standing a few steps away was Coyote, with the same playful spark in his eyes.
"Coyote?" She sat up. "But- but you're dead!"
"I don't feel like I am," He wrinkled his snout. "But if you say so."
"You are-" The hybrid started.
"Jasmin." She turned around to see another Coyote.
What in the moons...?
"Why are you here but also there at the same time?" She asked. The new Coyote smiled.
"That's your dream me. This is your real me," He said simply.
"No, that can't be," Jasmin blurted. "Coyote was killed by the NightWings two years ago because he was caught wandering through the tunnels. Deathbringer told me so."
"Ah...Deathbringer," Coyote sighed. "He didn't tell you, then? I'm dreamvisiting you, Jasmin."
"What-?" Jasmin stopped. "But- but that can't be!"
"But it can." He let out a breath. "It's a long story."
"Then tell me," Jasmin demanded.
"I will, I will." Coyote said softly. "Over two thousand years ago, I hatched from a snake's egg by a powerful SandWing animus.
"I was born as Jerboa the Second."
"Jerboa?" Jasmin was cut off again by her father.
"No interruptions."
"Alright."
"My 'mother', as you'd call her, was running away from Queen Scorpion, the queen at that time. My mother- her name's Jerboa- made me because she wanted a dragonet so badly, but couldn't see her beloved anymore. So Jerboa enchanted the snake egg to become a SandWing egg, who would never die from old age.
"I didn't know at that time, but Jerboa altered my personality, enchanted me to become more likable and easier to live with. But it didn't work so well, so she changed me into a NightWing named Shade and kicked me out.
"So I did what seemed like the best choice. I ran and hid somewhere no one could find me until two thousand years later, when I was sure everybody had forgotten about my mother. I flew until I found a NightWing, who told me where the NightWing kingdom was. Her name was Quickstrike, and she was the smartest and most beautiful dragon ever. We had a dragonet together, and we named him...
Here he hesitated.
"What? What did you name him?" Jasmin asked.
"We named him...Deathbringer."
