"Hey, I think this egg is hatching." Jasmin said.

They were back at the secret cave in Dragonfly Bay, and luckily, no one had seen them. Cricket had explained that Wasp injected some sort of green stuff into each egg, once to control the dragonet's mind, another time to back it up or make it work.

"I still don't think this is the right thing to do," Swordtail was staring at a wall, and Jasmin guessed that he was probably still too shocked and happy about Luna. "What if the dragonet can be mind controlled? Then Wasp will know where we are."

"Oh my goodness, Swordtail, Queen Wasp won't be able to!" Cricket said, exasperated. "I mean, there's a chance it could, but science needs a few risks."

"A few risks that might end our and the entire LeafWing population's lives." Sundew grumbled. "This egg is hatching! It's hatching at the exact wrong timing!"

"No, no, no," Cricket fumbled around the large egg, her talons covering the cracks that were starting to appear on the shell. "Baby dragonet! Stay still! You are not hatching right now! No! Don't you dare!"

"I think it's disagreeing with you," Blue smiled, smothering a laugh. "Look, it's out."

The egg cracked open, and a small HiveWing popped out of its broken shell. She had black scales with fuzzy swathes of bright Kinkajou yellow. Her wings were also striped with black and yellow, and black circles lined her huge golden eyes. The minute-old HiveWing had a round face and was barely bigger than the largest sloth in the rainforest.

"Ew." Jasmin wrinkled her snout at the dragonet. "It's soaked in green muck."

"Brbble!" The HiveWing dragonet chirped. "Beegooneef! Woodadee!"

Cricket examined the inside of the eggshell, which was coated in slimy green liquid. She sniffed at the ooze. "Sundew, come look at this. Doesn't it smell familiar?"

"It smell like that plant in one of Wasp's greenhouses," Sundew said, surprised. "Does that mean that the plant lets her control the HiveWings?"

"Does she have to eat it to let it work?" Blue asked.

"Maybe. Ooh, I hope it tastes as bad as it smells," Jasmin sniffed at the green slime. "This thing smells badder than a decaying sloth that's been dead for over a month."

"Beeboop!" The baby HiveWing burbled. "Brrrrrbleboof!"

"Don't let that thing get close to me," Sundew hopped out of the way and scooted towards a cave wall.

"I think she's hungry." Cricket smiled. Sundew scowled, then scooped a dead fish out of the pile of food besides her.

"Here, now leave me alone." She threw the fish at the dragonet.

"Goooooooo," The black-and-yellow HiveWing cooed. "Smeebuf! Snudoo! Brrleee!"

And she threw the fish straight at Jasmin's face.
