"It's time you had your own weapon," Deathbringer said. "You need protection. What if you were all alone and a hungry panther came along and tried to eat you? In the rainforest, I can't protect you."

"Wow," Jasmin breathed as the NightWing handed her a knife. Its polished obsidian blade was smooth and tipped with diamond. It was lighter than any knife she had ever held. The handle was studded with a shiny black rock with cracks that was ruby red. She ran her claws over the smooth rock. "It looks dangerous."

"And it is." Deathbringer pointed at the rock. "That rock is made from volcanic lava. You can take it out and throw it at anyone. The instant it touches scales, it heats up until it gives a dragon burns they will never forget."

"But won't it hurt me?" Jasmin asked, worried lines furrowing her face. "I'll get burnt every time I touch the handle."

"But notice that when you touched it, it didn't burn you." Deathbringer laughed at her dumbfounded expression. "It was made by the smartest NightWing scientist. He made the knife so that the rock never hurts the first dragon that touched the rock."

"And I touched it." Jasmin sucked in a breath. "Is this knife mine now?"

"Yup." The older dragon grinned. "And today you'll learn how to throw that rock so that you'll be able to retrieve it when you throw."

And Jasmin had learnt to aim with such accuracy that the rock embedded itself in between the scales of a dragon. She already knew how to use a knife, so that was not a problem.

"When can I test it?" Jasmin whispered. Deathbringer gestured for her to follow him through the tunnel that led to the Kingdom of Sand.

"Right now."

"See that SandWing?" The NightWing breathed. Jasmin narrowed her eyes at a SandWing with a ridiculously large tattoo of a viper on his chest. He was alone in a dark ally, holding a stolen coconut in one talon.

"The one with a stupid tattoo and smug face?" She asked. Deathbringer muffled a laugh.

"That's the one. Now throw the rock at him," He whispered. "Aim carefully. If you fail, just kill him with the knife."

Jasmin pried the rock out of the handle, aimed carefully, and threw it at the SandWing. It hit him in the chest, hitting the open mouth of viper. The SandWing let out a scream dropping his coconut, but instead of staying in place, the rock fell to the ground.

"It was your first try." Deathbringer soothed. "Now go finish him."

Jasmin ran towards the pained SandWing and drew her knife from the inside of her left wing and stabbed him in the neck. Blood spilled out of his wound, and he let out a final gurgle before falling silent. The stolen coconut laid still, soaking up blood.

"I kind of wished that I'd be able to enjoy his pain for a bit longer," Jasmin grinned. "That was great! And look! Blood-flavored coconut!"

As she went to pick up the lava rock, she heard Deathbringer sigh, "I've trained her into a psychopath."
