Jasmin was around three and a half when she'd found the wounded cat in the rainforest. It was an ocelot, with a unique pelt of silver fur and black markings. The ocelot's eyes were a piercing blue, though then they were clouded with pain.
"Oh, an ocelot," Jasmin walked softly towards the cat. The ocelot was a female. She hissed, though letting out a pitiful whimper as she moved her leg. The leg was completely mauled, and Jasmin could see bone past the rotten flesh and blood.
"Poor thing," The dragonet murmured. She looked at the toucan carcass in her claws; she'd caught it to eat, hoping for another one to come along so she'd be able to have a decent lunch. Jasmin held out the dead bird, and the ocelot looked up warily at her. The lithe cat looked quite exhausted, but her body was curled around three small shapes, tail protectively covering the objects.
"Eat it," Jasmin urged, gently tossing the toucan towards it. The ocelot sniffed at it cautiously, then nibbled on the carcass. It let out a soft moan, and Jasmin finally noticed the scratches on her neck. Blood pooled on the ground as the ocelot jerked and fell silent. The wild cat was dead.
"Oh." Jasmin laid her talons on the body, her claws sticky with blood as she lifted them off. She started when she felt something move against the ocelot's dead body. The hybrid cautiously uncurled the cat's tail and found out that the three shapes were actually little furry kittens.
She was a mother, Jasmin realized. The baby ocelots were covered in blood, their soft kitten fluff matted to their skin. She felt their heartbeats. They were all dead.
No, wait. One of the little cats were alive. It wriggled when it felt Jasmin feel its side. She lifted the cat out of the bloody mass, and cast one last look at the dead ocelot family before carrying the young kitten away.
