**Marcel
When I got to Yale I was the most happiest I had ever been in these past few weeks. I was not so miserable anymore and I was more in love with my girlfriend ever. The way I was so happy I had even forgotten that Merissa was still in my room. I was reminded of her situation when I walked in all smiles and she was sleeping on my bed while Nathan was sitting and pressing his phone on his bed.
Him: and where the hell have you been?
Me: Cambridge. I went to see Anam
Him: judging by that smile, I take it you guys are good?
Me: we better than good. We almost had sex!
Him: NO WAY!
He said with his hands on his mouth.
Me: shhhh. She's sleeping
Him: speaking of which, she needs to go. The last thing you want is your girlfriend finding out that you and her are still friends
I looked at Mel first and she was sleeping peacefully. I signalled that we go and talk outside. Knowing Nate, he probably didn't ask any questions, he let her be... as usual. We both walked outside.
Him: and then? I thought you told her to stay away from you... what the hell?
Me: Terrence has been hitting her
Him: ok??
Me: what do you mean ok?
Him: I'm still waiting for the part where her being beaten by the guy she left you for is any of your problem because really I do not understand at all.
Me: no need to be mean, no one deserves to be beaten up like that. Merissa or not.
Him: I feel sorry for her no doubt
Me: could have fooled me
Him: please just hear me out. Merissa was the reason you and Anam weren't talking for so long, by the looks of things you and Anam are good now and the last thing you need right now is this thing you have for Merissa, getting in the way
Me: firstly, I don't have a thing for Merissa. Secondly shoot me for caring. I know my girlfriend and as much as she doesn't like Merissa, she wouldn't want me to throw her in the streets
Him: I'm not saying throw her in the streets, all I'm saying is that there are shelters for people who have been in Merissa's situation before. Even here on campus there's support groups and all those other things for people in this situation. Take her there and she'll get the help she needs there; she is still a student here after all.
"if you guys want me out of your room you could have just said so"
We both turned around and Merissa was standing outside of our door.
Her: it's good to know that I don't have a friend in you anymore Marcel. I would have preferred you say it in my face though.
With all that said she stormed off, I wanted to run after her and apologise for whatever she heard a few minutes ago but I didn't have it in. my body didn't let me and so did my mind. I just didn't feel obliged to do as I normally would. Seemingly I didn't feel anything for Merissa anymore, that feeling of wanting to be there for her was just not there anymore. It was sad but it was great too, it felt good on my side. Nate looked at me, I think he saw what I was seeing. He smiled
Me: what?
Him: normally you would have run after her but look at you standing here. What did Anam do to you or should I ask what did she give you?
