So. Maybe. His last moments are with Xiao.
Aether's bedridden. Again. This time with hospital equipment. What's the point of all this equipment if he's going to die soon? Give him false hope?
"Aether! I got us some...plushies."-Xiao
Aether was looking out the windows. The gray clouds met the darker gray sky. It was raining. He hated rain. The lighting scarred him, the slow walking couples in the rain, and the stupid dream of finally going outside to feel it and be a kid again.
"You want the red or blue one?"-Xiao
"Red."-Aether
His eyes. Those empty yellow eyes. The blond he knew was gone already. The childish, cheeky, and unraveled blond who was played like a marionette doll.
Now his only happiness is right in front of him. It's silly isn't it? But, it's a good kind of silly.
"Hey Aether. Want to touch the rain?"-Xiao
"That's childish."-Aether
"Who cares? It's something."-Xiao
Aether thought about it. It was a chance to leave the bed. But it meant a wheelchair. He couldn't move on his own. How old was he? How many birthdays passed?
"Can we touch the rain for a bit?"-Aether
"Sure. Whatever it is you please."-Xiao
Xiao then left the room to get a wheelchair. He got a black one with stickers. The one Lumine used when she was paralyzed in a car accident. They stuck stickers on it because Lumine didn't like how blank it was.
Xiao helped him in the chair, taking some pills, and movement. He actually hasn't seen the outside of his room in years. It was spacious. The kitchen looked like a mess. There were glass bottles everywhere.
"Sorry. I was drinking. Ready?"-Xiao
Aether nodded. Soon the door to the outside world opened. It was still the same. How boring.
He touched the rain. It felt nice. Xiao smiled. At least Aether could see the outside of his room. It was even better than the outside of his window.
Then he started to feel dizzy. That ruined the fun. Xiao wheeled him back inside to his room. He needed rest.
"Can we do it again tomorrow? Even if it doesn't rain, can we go outside?"-Aether
"Of course. I just want to see you happy Aether."-Xiao
Aether hugged the crap out of that plushie and went to sleep. He died in his sleep that night.
That morning, Xiao couldn't even cry. He just caressed his cheek one last time and told his parents.
They were supposed to clean out the room, but Xiao couldn't bring himself to do so. He slept in his bed for a month thinking he was still here. But he had to accept he was gone.
He drank even more while cleaning out his room. He felt bad for throwing all of this away. Maybe keep some memories for himself.
But. It's hard to forget him. They wasted 10 years together. They were childhood friends. Xiao had feelings for him. When Aether got better, he planned to tell him.
Maybe it's time to meet him in another life. Or to be with him. Either one works.
I'm proud of y'all for reading my dumb little stories. Sure there are tears, but generally I'm proud. Idk why I'm saying this.
