Chapter 29: Protective Alpha

I grimace as I slowly wake to intense pain in my neck. My body feels so heavy that I can't seem to move at all. Even just trying to open my eyes leaves me tired after the unsuccessful attempt.

"You over-scented him."

I hear a stern voice close by whisper. It sounds like Rei, her tone hides very little of how displeased she is. I try to turn to her, wanting to know why she is so mad but the pain in my neck prevents me. The sharp lightning bolt shoots up to my temple and causes my scent gland to ach.

"He was becoming hysterical from the pain. I couldn't let him hurt like that, I had to help him."

I smile at Shoto's voice. I could tell he was worried, but the sound of his voice makes me happy nonetheless. The low vibrato pacifying my omega and comforting the worry that I held moments before.

"I know, but you two aren't mated yet. You practically got him drunk, he is going to be dependent on your scent now." Rei replies with a heavy sigh.

"Drunk? I didn't drink anything." I tried to say, but it came out more as a pained grown than words. I feel arms wrap around me, and I smile when a kiss is placed on my cheek. Shoto's scent floods over me as the heat from his body helps me relax.

"Hey, Zuku. Are you awake, Bunny?" Shoto asks, his words smooth and slow so I can process what he is saying. I try to nod, but the pain that stabs through my neck makes me whine.

"Don't move, baby." Shoto says, his hand pushing my hair from my forehead. "You have a bad wound on your neck."

I open my eyes and feel grateful that there isn't a lot of light in the room. The few candles around are already enough to blind me.

"Sho?"

"I'm here." He replies, his voice so soft. "I need you to go back to sleep okay. You are still under the influence of my pheromones."

I whine out a protest and try nuzzle closer into his body, but the pain is so bad.

"I'm not leaving, you are safe. I will stay here." Shoto quickly replies. I feel my body grow warm again and my head starts feeling light.

"Shoto! Stop scenting him!" I hear Rei scrutinize, a threatening growl rumbling in her chest. Her displeased pheromones lightly hit my nose and I can't help but press further into my alpha's embrace.

I smile as I hear shoto grumble an apology, his alpha submitting to his dam's anger. Even a strong alpha wouldn't have the courage to go against his dam, even a Superior like Shoto. There is a family hierarchy for a reason, and the dam will always have a heavy influence on their pups.

"At this rate you two will have to mate when he wakes up!" Rei groans in irritation. If I wasn't so mentally gone, I think I would have blushed as red as a cherry at that statement.

"That's fine with me." Shoto mumbles, his breath tickling my cheek just before leaving another kiss on my temple.

Rei sighs, irritation slowly fading as she begins to talk. "We will have to talk to him when he fully wakes. Unclaimed omega's can't be scented like this without forming a dependency, and I'm afraid that with this much he won't be able to go without your scent even for a couple hours.You two will have to mate within the week if we don't want him to fall into a drop. I am nervous about his omega deciding a delay in mating after this much affection will be a rejection. Do you think he will be okay with that?"

"Ya, I think we are both getting a little impatient." Shoto replies, pushing closer to me. "We might need you to be the Superior Omega until he is able to take the role, he hasn't been taught enough to take all the responsibilities."
