Chapter 34: process

Sho wrapped a hand around Izuku's waist and pulled him close, their bound hands nestled between their chests as they swayed back and forth. They had been dancing for what seemed like hours. Many of the songs were upbeat and happy to encourage everyone to join in, but this one was slow.

The newly mated couple danced together, using the ribbon to twirl and dance in unison as they held the other close. The music was beautiful, lulling and tranquil, as many of the mated couples enjoyed a moment to themselves. A few children twirling and jumping dramatically as they tried to copy the adults

Izuku caught a glimpse of his friends. The blond smiling brightly up at his alpha as he was rocked slowly. Their small pup crawling on their feet as she tried to push her way between her sire' and dam's legs to join in their dance. The couple periodically cooing or laughing at her before turning their attention back to one another.

Izuku smiled, his heart warmed by the happiness that was brought because of this day. The omega looked up at the alpha that held him close, his eyes drawn into the dual tones as they swayed along. Izuku remembered back to Iida and Ochako's ceremony celebration, recollecting how he yearned to be in the omega's spot and wanting to know of the feelings that would come when someone loved him enough to be bound. Despite all of the confusing feelings that accompanied that desire back then, he knew that he wanted something like what that pair had.

Izuku felt the tingle in his nose that indicated tears were on their way, another round to accompany the many that had already fallen through out the evening. He let out a breath as he nuzzled closer into Shoto's chest. He had what he wanted now, someone who loved him fully and cared just as much for his pack. Everything finally felt complete.

A warm weight was pressed against his lower back, the gentle caressing of circles calming him and bringing a peaceful atmosphere between the mated pair. A small purr beginning to rumble in Izuku's chest as he inhaled the scent that he associated with comfort and safety.

"How is my mate doing?" Shoto whispers into the omega's ear. Izuku smiled widely at the alpha's words; mate, a phrase that spilled another wave of happiness through his whole body.

"Better than I ever have been." Izuku answered. "I'm so happy that you still want me to be your omega." The reply accompanied a tear as it slipped down his cheek. The flood of emotions overtaking the small omega as he tried to bury himself further into the alpha's broad chest.

Izuku could feel the hand on his back leave before reconnecting under his chin. The pressure encourages him to look up and see watery blue and grey eyes. Shoto had a soft look on his face, a gentle smile pulling at the sides of his lips.

"I feel the same. To finally be your mate, and to be together is something I have wanted for so long." He whispers, tears building in his eyes as looks down at the love of his life.

"To be my mate?" Izuku asked with a little confusion. "Don't you mean for me to be yours?"

"Of course, but you will never be a possession to me." Shoto explains, his hand tightening around the omega's. "I was yours from the moment we talked in the pond last year. To be claimed as yours, that is what makes me happy. That is what brings peace to my restless mind and reassurance to my insecurities. To be yours is all I have wanted, and you accepted me..."

Another stream of tears flowed down the omega's cheeks as he listened. Izuku's omega whimpering at their alpha's honesty. How could he have been so blinded by his selfishness to not see this level of dedication and love from the alpha? He could feel the regret from not taking a step back sooner. He wished he had recognizing his feelings and what was right in front of him sooner, no actively fought against it multiple occasions. How much pain could he have saved both of them if he had just looked past his own issues?
