Bug Bait

Misty was inside the mobile base and she looked out the window to see Cole on his cycle riding beside them.

"This is awesome!" He shouted

Kai then rushed ahead of them and shouted, "Last one down the mountain is a rotten egg!" He then let out a gleeful laugh and Cole picked up the pace speeding ahead of them.

"Nya grinned and increased the speed, and Misty heard the engine revving.

Cole and Kai were neck and neck ahead, and in only a few minutes they had reached the Desert of Doom.

Jay reclined in his car with his hands behind his head and he let out a sigh and said, "Ah, yes, I've missed this life." He then added, "The open road, life on the go, adventure around every turn!"

Nya smiled and then looked at Zane and said, "What'cha reading, Zane?"

"A travel book about the region we are entering, It is called the Desert of Doom," Zane said, this seem to catch Lloyd's and Misty's attention as they both turned their gaze to Zane to listen to what he was saying.

"My data files are incomplete on this subject" Zane admitted

"Really? Why do they call it that?" Lloyd asked

"Yeah, that name is slightly concerning," Misty added,

"According to ancient legend, local tribes once worshiped a giant thousand-year-old beetle named Beohernie. One day for no apparent reason. Beohernie became displeased with their prayers and destroyed their village," Zane explained

"Really?" Lloyd asked

"I have so many questions about that, I don't know where to start," Nya said her face filled with confusion.

Jay was still laid back and said, "Well, it's clearly a typo, Beohernie isn't even a name. They obviously named him Bernie,"

Lloyd and Zane exchanged looks of disbelief. Misty sighed and look out the window only to spot Cole who had pulled up beside the mobile base and waved at her. Misty smiled and waved back. His voice then came over the radio and he said, "Anyone else starting to get hungry? Because I see a cool little oasis coming up." He then revved his motorcycle and sped off toward the Oasis.

"Good idea. Lunch break everyone. "They parked a little ways away from the Oasis and walked the rest of the way.

The ninja sat on top of blankets to keep from having to touch the hot sun. Misty was over kneeling down near the crystal blue water. And seemed to be enjoying playing in the cool water it felt cool on her skin.

She could hear Jay say, "Oh, yeah. Ah!" He then laid down on the blanket and said, "That hit the spot,"

Zane was still reading his book and said, "Hmm. Listen to this. Another interesting anecdote, travelers entering the Desert of Doom, should be wary of encountering mirages."

"Uh. Mirages?" Jay asked and sat up to look at Zane.

"An optical illusion, often seen at sea or in the desert," Zane explained

"Cool! I wanna see a mirage." Kai said

Cole sat up and said, "Is there another PB&J?"

"Check the Cooler," Nya said before she took a sip of her drink.

Cole walked over to the cooler only for it to disappear before he could touch it.

"Whoa! Did you guys see that!" Cole shouted

Misty looked up at the sound of Cole's distress but she didn't move from the water's edge. She saw the other ninja get to their feet.

"I saw it." Kai said and then hesitated and said, "Unless it was a mirage."
