~Flashback~ (Cole)

Cole dreaded what was about to happen. He knew he was no doubt in trouble worse of all he was causing his already sick mother more trouble. His father walked him down the familiar hallway of their house. To the room where his mother rested in bed. His mother had been bedridden due to her sickness for a while now. Cole longed for the days in the past when his mother was full of energy and life. The hours she spent in the warm sun with him. On the days when he didn't mind the dancing and singing, his father insisted he learn, simply because his mother loved it so.

His father opened the door to the room. On the beige-colored walls were many crayon drawings and family pictures that brightened up the room. The woman with dark black hair tied up in a bun draped in a white nightgown was leaning against some pillows in bed. She made an effort to sit up straighter when the door opened.

The effort must have been too much as she started coughing, but managed to say, "Hi, honey," turning to Cole with a weak but warm smile.

"Mom!" Cole cried and he ran and hugged his mother tightly, "I don't want you to be sick anymore, Mom!"

"I know. But we don't always get what we want, do we? Your father said you got into trouble at school." She said weakly hugging her son as tightly as she could manage.

Cole parted from his mother and lowered his head as he confessed, "Yeah. But it - it wasn't my fault! There's this kid, he's just - he's just a big bully! He's always picking on the little kids and -"

"And you got in a fight," Lilly said softly her eyebrows furrowed slightly as she listened to her son's confession

Cole shrank in on himself, "I'm sorry, Mom. I promise I-I won't fight anymore. I'll be good from now on. I'll make you proud! And - and -" his voice started breaking, and he started sniffling and desperately tried to brush away the tears, he felt about to fall.

"Oh, Cole. Don't you see? I am proud." She said taking her son's hand in hers. Squeezing it tightly in her own, she said, "I want you to promise me, Cole, that you will always stand up to those who are cruel and unjust. Always."

"I - I promise, Mom." Cole said his voice broke as he said, "Always," and placed his head in his mother's lap. He felt his mother resting her forehead against his head. Cole closed his eyes tightly to keep the tears he knew would fall from his eyes from running down his face.

~The Flashback Ends~

Cole was torn out of his trip down memory lane by Plundar's voice.

"What are we doing? We've explored this tunnel a million times. If there was a way out of Rock-Bottom, we would have found it already," He muttered to Fungus who was behind him.

"Come now, Plundar. It doesn't hurt to have someone take a fresh look,"

"It's hurting my feet! We've been at this for hours," The leather called thief muttered back.

"Are we having a tea time chat, or are we trying to escape this dungeon?" Vania said and she hurried forward and caught up to Cole and Misty. Who had stopped walking in front of them looked to be a cave-in that had occurred. "Another dead end?" She asked

"Another dead end" Cole confirmed his brows furrowed he sounded frustrated and disappointed.

"Good sir ninja, if it makes you feel any better, the four of us have been failing to escape this place for years," Fungus said as he caught up to them.

"Well, thank you, but that doesn't really help." Cole sighed and turned around and started back the way they had come. Misty followed she gently placed her hand on Cole's shoulder. He patted her hand but didn't acknowledge her trying to cheer him up.
