HOUSE TOUR
———IT HAD BEEN NEARLY TWO DAYS since the group arrived at Alexandria. By now the rest of the group, minus Kai, was awake. Maeve and Elliott were the only two who really ventured outside mostly to scope out the boarder of the walls to check the security. Also while secretly attempting to come up with a quick escape plan if they found out these people were not who they were perceiving to be.
Maeve and Elliott knew the walls were to high to be climbed, especially with Kai unconscious for who knows how much longer. Even if he were to wake up right now, he'd be to weak to get over them. So, Maeve and Elliott agreed if anything were to go wrong and they had to get out. They'd would cause a distraction somewhere away from the main gate, probably by using a few free walkers or perhaps even a small explosion wouldn't hurt. That's when they'd just walk out the front and if someone tried to stop them. They'd do what they had to do.
Aside from that, Maeve and Elliott had also encountered a few people who Deanna suggest they met. First was Deanna's husband, who seem genuine and nice, even explained how he had built these walls to give them a sense of their stability. Then there was a young women, Maggie who seemed nice enough but definitely been through some dark things that made her more rough around the edges. She was apart of the group they recruited few days prior, as well as the other man they met. A 'sheriff', Rick. He was the one that stuck out to Maeve, he wasn't like the others. He wasn't overcome with the illusion this place was trying feeding them because no part of him thought this would last. The fairy tale ending isn't for a world like this, the people inside weren't built for a world like this. That was an understanding that only Maeve and Rick understood, they saw it and they were waiting for it all to crumble.
Maeve laughed when she saw his cop costume. He understood why. It seemed everyone around here were assigned jobs, except Maeve and her group. Deanna had mentioned earlier that if they were to stay they'd need jobs. Maeve's group wasn't much help in giving ideas for their jobs. They were all young when the fall happened. Kai was only 12, Rory 17 and Louis was only a year older than her. Elliott was 26 and Maeve had just turned 25. Now it's four years later and the only life skills they've learned are purely survival.
Back then they had their whole lives ahead of them to get good jobs, make a career, make a life, a family and a name for themselves. Rory, Louis and Kai were still in school, Maeve was a barista mainly with a few side jobs as a cleaner and waitress. As for Elliott, he hasn't told anyone much about his life prior but he did mention that before all this he was an underground boxer. The short version of it is that he fought people and a bunch of rich men bet on him.
Now, Maeve and Elliott stood at the back of the community that was practically hidden by houses, only visible from a certain spot on the street. They just needed somewhere quiet to talk, one without Rosita checking on them or Milo watching over them like hawk. Maeve just had to come outside, being cooped up in that tiny infirmary just to watch her little brother sleep and wonder if he was ever going to wake up was real torture. Being out here helped her clear her mind of that stress, helped her think about how things could progress. Think clearly of every possible outcome. Elliott came along for the company, not her choice.
"What are you thinking?" Elliott asked, breaking their long silence. A silence she was quite enjoying, so all she did in response was shrug followed by a tired sigh and running a tired hand through her hair. "Come here." Elliott pulled in her by the shoulders to hug her, he wrapped his arms around her shoulders and held her. She did nothing but let him.
They hadn't gotten much rest, Deanna offered them a small house near the end of the street of the infirmary to stay in for the time being, but Maeve declined it knowing she wanted to sleep next to her brother incase he woke up. She wanted him to wake up with somebody there. This brought in the extra exhaustion that came with the extremely uncomfortable chairs they had.
