BEAST OUT OF ITS CAGE
———

INSIDE ONE OF THE SAVIOURS TRUCKS, the two boys kept themselves hidden behind some boxes. They had snuck onto them after they had dropped off Enid at Hilltop, it wasn't their plan when they took her, but it quickly became their plan when they saw them there. Soon, they were joined by Jesus, who they watched run into the open truck and rolled in casually. He seemed to have the same idea.

Jesus seemed shocked to see them here, but made no attempt to make them leave. They were doing it on their own, and he wasn't going to stop them—plus he knew he wouldn't be able to even if he tried.

After some time, Kai watched as Jesus grabbed one of the bottle of syrup from the boxes, and started to pour it onto the road. Kai steps away from Carl, and when Carl sensed his presence leaving it caught his attention. Making him watch as Kai stepped up beside Jesus and asking, "What's that for?"

Jesus looks over at the boy, seeing how young he looks in the light now. Jesus glanced over his shoulder at Carl who was glaring at the sight, and saw that he too was just a boy, but still—Jesus didn't acknowledge it too much. Instead he just replied, "Making a trail. I think we're close."

That's what caused Carl and Kai to look at each other, Kai was starting to get afraid. He was always a scared boy, he had a dark side, but it didn't wasn't strong enough to rid him of his fears. It seemed the two boys could sense the intenseness of the situation, and they knew they were getting close. They could feel it in their bones.

"We should bail out, follow the rest of the way, see what we can see." Jesus tells them, putting the syrup down. Gathering himself as he got ready to 'bail out'.

Carl raises a brow as he asks, "How?"

A smirk spreads across Jesus' lips for a second before telling them, "It isn't usually the hall that gets us. It's trying to fight it. Run with it or roll with it. The truck's going slow enough, we'll be in the blind spot, we can race behind one of the cars."

The plan seemed well thought, and the boys had no doubt that it would work. Jesus seemed to know what he was talking about, as if he had done this once or twice before. Kai glanced over at Carl, without even speaking words, the two understood perfectly what they were going to do.

"Show us first." Carl spoke first, not even looking at Jesus as he had said it. Kai nodded, confirming with Carl that this is what he wanted, even if he didn't feel great about it. Strength in numbers, but Jesus would just get in their way, and if he knew what they actually wanted to do—he would try to stop them.

Jesus nodded his head, and he took a deep breath or two before he jumps out of the truck. Rolling several times in the landing before easily getting up and running to hide behind on of the run down cars. They made eye contact with Jesus who was waiting for them to follow him, but instead he just saw as Carl stepped up beside Kai and they started to get further and further in the distance.

Clearly having no intentions of leaving.

Kai waved to the man hiding before he was gone for good, and when Jesus was out of sight is when Kai mumbled, "Hate to see him go."

Carl shook his head at his boyfriends statement, but Kai had the tiniest smile on as he was just joking. Knowing that Carl was a jealous boyfriend, and Kai used it against him just this once, but they both knew it was obviously harmless.
