ROLLERBLADING
———"YOU SHOULD COME WITH US." Rick told his son, who casually ignored him by tossing darts at the board, "We'll only be gone a few days at most, we need supplies. They're gonna be coming back son."
Finally acknowledging him, Carl turned around and snapped at his dad, "Is this how it's gonna be now?" Raising a brow as he doubted Rick's choices of submission to Negan.
"Yes, it is. You know that." Rick told him sternly, trying to shut down his son's doubts before it got them in trouble. Knowing how dangerous it could be for this conversation to be heard by the wrong people.
With that, Carl looked away from his dad, unimpressed with his words as he looked at his sister. Who was leaning against the wall with her arms crossed, Carl looked at her and saw that she was thinking the exact same things as him. Their eyes said it all—they always had a way of communicating without the words.
"I'll go." Rory announced, still looking at her brother as he shook his head. Trying to tell her to stay, "Not because I want to follow his dictator rules, but because we have a war to prepare for."
These were the words that Carl wanted to hear his father say, but still felt a bit more comforting coming from his sister.
Rick turned to her, giving her a tired look as he told her, "Enough of that. They have our guns—"
"Because you gave it to them!" Rory cut him off as she pushed herself off the wall, and stood tall while facing her dad. It was in times like this that he wished they're kids weren't so brave, so strong willed, because it was in a time like this that those things could get them killed.
"I had to! You don't understand, I had to make sure that Negan didn't take anything more from this family." Rick points his finger in her face, to which she just slaps away from him. Disappointed in him after all this time, she could only think about how she never should've let Louis go with Rick. "Listen to me! I am doing this, for you. For this family."
Rory looks away from Rick, rolling her eyes at him as she turned from him. Looking at Michonne who stood in the doorway, clearly she agreed with Rory and Carl to some point—but she wasn't going to vocalize it. Not the way Rory did.
To break the two apart, Carl simply says, "See you in a few days." Rick sighed, knowing that he has lost the interest of his kids. They've teamed against him and that's a fight no parent would win.
All Rick could do was tell his son, "Just stay here. Don't do anything stupid."
With that, Rick left the room with Aaron. Going to prepare for their travels in scavenging, as Michonne was going to leave she placed a firm hand on Rory's shoulder. To which Rory placed her hand on top of, giving the woman a kind smile. Rory wanted to tell Michonne about the pregnancy that's she been holding in for a week, but given the situation—there was never a good time.
Plus, the focus shouldn't be on her. It was about this war they were trying to start, the fight for their family and for their home. Only when Louis was back home and safe would she be excited about the child growing inside of her, till then—it remains private.
When Michonne left two of the Grimes children, Rory approached her brother, who stopped throwing the darts. Carl didn't turn around to face his sister, but he didn't turn away when she stepped into his line of sight either.
"Look at me," Rory stated calmly and Carl listened, lifting his head up to look at her as the hair fell out of his face, "I'll be back in a few days."
Carl shook his head slightly, "You shouldn't go." Was all Carl said, he didn't need to say more to make her understand, they both knew the reason she should stay within these walls.
