IT WAS FINALLY OVER. The outpost had been taken out, and Negan was no longer a threat. Louis, Maggie and Carol were returned back to them, Louis in a rough state. Bruised on his ribs, and a pretty good headache with a broken nose, missing majority of his ear, mentally exhausted on top of all that but he was in once piece.
Thankfully they had medical supplies and meds in the RV, Louis head had a bandaged around it that covered his left ear. The medication he had been given made the pain subside, he could feel it, but it was bearable. Right now, the worst pain was his sister.
"Are you okay?" Maeve asked her brother for the a millionth time. His hand rubbed at his temple. Trying to defuse the pounding inside his skull caused by his sister with her constant questions. The hovering wasn't helping any of this either. "Need me to get you some water—?"
"Evie, please. Slow down." Louis begged, his voice low and raspy like if he spoke any louder his own ears would hear it and start to ring again— well, the one ear he had left.
It was hard to tell the person you love most in this world that you need them to walk away, to leave you alone for just a second. He needs to breath but he can't with Maeve constantly checking on him, feeling guilty that he was taken in the first place.
But whatever god is out there heard his wishes, and that's when Daryl approached them. Eyeing up Louis, asking without words if he was okay. Louis appreciated that the most, not wanting to hear another, "are you okay?" from anyone. He felt bad for feeling this way, everyone was just trying to help.
Louis nodded, confirming he would survive.
Then Daryl turned to Maeve, "Hey, did ya wanna ride back with me?" He mentioned to the motorcycle that they had recovered at the outpost.
There was clearly a tension between them, more than usual, because Maeve didn't even look at him as she shook her head.
Maeve started to reply, "I should stay with my brother—"
"No!" Louis cut her off, loudly, the quick movement he made to look up paining him, "Go with Daryl. I'll be fine—Rick will look after me."
Louis pointed to Rick who was walking by, and when he heard his name his head turned over, and Louis said, "Won't you, Rick?"
Rick looks confused for a second, but then just nods his head when he sees the seriousness in Louis's face, "Yeah, definitely. You and Rory would kill me other wise."
Louis smiles as Rick thankfully, "See, all taken care off. So you can go, okay?"
Maeve sighs, knowing that her brother needed space from her. She couldn't fight him on this. So, she simply nodded her head and allowed herself to pull him into one more gentle hug.
"Je t'aime (I love you)" Maeve whispered to him during her tight hug, and despite Louis being overwhelmed by his sister—her hug seemed to help him relax.
"Je t'aime." Louis responded back as he pulled away, and then gave a smile to Daryl before Louis pulled himself into the RV with the help of Rick, who helped him get comfortable.
Watching Louis be taken care of, it took a small weight off her shoulders, knowing she didn't have to do it alone. Not that she'd give up worrying about him, but it made it easier to go with Daryl. Knowing he would be in good hands.
