[46] hello, brother

HELLO, BROTHER

IT WAS ONE OF THOSE BEAUTIFUL DAYS, where the Grimes kids and the Greenway kids were sitting together in a patch of grass. Judith sat on a blanket playing with her toys, while Louis sat with Rory between his legs and across from them was Carl with Kai laying his head in his lap while playing with Judith.

Kai hasn't been completely the same since his little adventure, but right now he felt a little better as he listened to Judith's laugh and Carl's breathing. Kai lifts his eyes up and looks across at Louis and Rory, Louis was playing with Rory's braid. The same braid that he did in her hair whenever she wanted it, it was one of their many things.

"Guys plan on a big wedding or something?" Carl asked, breaking the silence that the four let fall over them.

"Gabriel offered the church to do something there, but we plan on waiting. Till we know the thing with the Saviours is over." Rory told him, and her brother nodded his head.

Carl mumbled, "That'd be nice." As his eyes drifted down at Kai, to see that he was listening just not totally focusing on it. Kai's been quiet since coming back, his laugh and his jokes didn't fill the air anymore. Kai tried, but it wasn't the same, he was lost in his thoughts most of the time.

Carl wasn't sure how to be there for him, how to help him out of this or if he shouldn't even help. This seems like something Kai has to do when he is ready, Carl doesn't want to try and force it out of him and only make things worse.

"There's actually something we wanted to tell you," Louis starts, and Rory and him share a look with smirks on their faces. Rory sits up, giving space between them and looking at their younger siblings. Kai and Carol look up at them, curious as to what it could be.

Rory puts a hand over her stomach as she feels a nervousness talk over her body, but still she manages to breath out the words "I'm...pregnant."

For a long moment, Carl and Kai don't say anything. They simply look at each other with blank expression and then turn back to their siblings as they repeat in sync, "You're pregnant?!"

Louis and Rory both had these smiles on their face as they laughed and Rory nodded her head. This caused Carl to stand up, and the other two followed his actions but Kai still sat on the ground with a mouth open in shock. It took Carl reached down and pulling him up by the shirt to knock him out of it.

Kai was still in shock, but he knew he was so happy for them. He knew this was big news and should be celebrated, but for some reason she could not allow himself to be as happy as the others looked. He felt a weight on top of him, crushing him whenever he felt himself smile or when he felt joy.

This was one of those moments, that's why he felt himself start to tear up because he felt himself slipping away.

"Don't cry, you'll make me cry." Rory stated, looking over at the boy who had tears in his eyes, and Kai forced a smile that she seemed to believe. Rory made her way over to him, engulfing him in a hug that Kai returned, he might not be in a good place to celebrate this wonderful news, but he still hugged her tightly to show he cared.

"I'm so happy for you," Kai mumbled to her through tears. Rory mistaking those tears for joy while inside Kai felt himself crumbling.

While that happened, Carl and Louis were in the middle of hugging in a simple embrace. Patting each others back a few times before pulling apart, "Congratulations, brother."
