TRAPPED
trigger warning : mentions of SA
——-THE DEAD WAS KNOCKING at the door of the bar. Maeve had stopped searching for an exit, there clearly was none. The whole time Milo sat at the bar craving things into the wood with his knife, still drinking. Maeve had explored the dark storage room and did find a back entrance, but when she tried pushing through, she quickly realized it was blocked by something large and loud. Next thing she knew, she had walkers covering the back door too. Really trapping them from all angles.
They had run out of options. They just had to wait for the walkers to lose interest or see if they broke in before that. Until then, all they could do was sit there and wait.
So, that's what they did. Maeve was sitting at the bar, resting her head in her hand, while Milo lay on the bar. His head was near her elbow, and he had the tequila bottle laying on his chest. He sipped at it occasionally. The taste never gets better.
They didn't speak or even look at each other. The silence felt safe, especially after what happened between them. It wasn't what they were used to, it wasn't the relationship they'd been building over the past week. They've both thought of each other as stuck up assholes, but suddenly they were seeing each other in a new light.
As the silence carried on, Maeve could only think of her brothers. The rest of the herd has definitely reached them by now. It's only been a few hours, so they probably haven't gotten inside the walls, but who knows how long they'll hold out for? Those walkers might never leave, and slowly but surely, Alexandria will starve.
It will be slow, and Maeve will have to watch from outside the walls. If Maeve had nothing holding her to Alexandria, like her brothers, then she wouldn't even bother going back. She'd live her life outside those walls, and she'd survive. But her whole life purpose is inside those walls. Louis and Kai. She knew she just had to get back to them, she'd have to figure something out. Figure out a way to let them know she's coming for them and that she isn't dead and rotting.
"Why'd ya kill Carter?"
Milo's voice sounded like a million knives being shoved in her ears, it seemed so loud even though it was just above a whisper. It caused Maeve to finally look at him, not turning her head but just dropping her eyes to look at him. His focus is still on the ceiling.
When Maeve didn't answer him, she hoped he'd stop, but his mind was starting to get a little fuzzy from the drinks.
"Was it because he didn't like you? Or because you didn't like him? God, he was really annoyin' wasn' he?" Milo blabbered.
In return, Maeve rolls her eyes. Then she turned her hand and spun herself around on the stool, so that now her back was facing Milo.
"I already told you." Was all Maeve responded with.
She heard Milo shuffling around now that she wasn't looking at him. "Yeah, yeah. For the group." He paused, and even though Maeve couldn't see him, she could feel his eyes burning into her head. He was still trying to figure her out without even seeing her face.
"What if it was one of your brothers, or Elliott? Would you have made the same decision then?"
Again, Maeve didn't answer. This time she didn't need to, they both knew the answer. She didn't have to think about it, she knew if it was one of her brothers out there, she would have done about anything to save them. Or she'd die trying.
The only reason Carter was even bit was because Maeve was careless with him, she'll admit that now. She wasn't focused on him, she didn't care about him, if she had, he'd probably still be here. But she doesn't even seem to care that he isn't.
