IN THE HOUSE PT.1
———WALKERS CLIMBED OVER THE BROKEN WALL, INVITING THEMSELVES IN and scattering everyone like birds. Everyone was sent into full panic mode, while Kai stood frozen. Watching from a distance as the walkers piled in, one after another, invading their home and the place that was supposed to be safe. Kai was inching backwards, not being able to process any more movements than that with Rick yelling, everyone screaming, and walkers snarling.
From where he stood, he watched as Rosita and Tara ran to help Eugene and Rory. Rick was shooting at all the walkers, with Deanna chasing after him. Walkers got closer with each passing second, and that's when Kai realized he couldn't see his brother.
The panic started to set in, his body finally caught up with his brain, and his brain was telling him that Louis was missing. Nowhere to be seen, could he already have been in the mix of walkers? Could the faint sound of a scream be him crying out for help? Kai felt his knees buckle at the thought, and his hands and face started to sweat despite his lack of movement.
The seconds felt like minutes, and minutes felt like hours, as Kai looked around desperately for his brother. When the reality that Louis wasn't anywhere in sight, he had to find the strength in him to move his legs. He had to use his fear of the dead and the fear of losing his brother to push him forward—push him so hard that he ran. He ran in no particular direction, just let his feet guide him.
He had no weapon, nothing to defend himself with, he should hide. Should find shelter against the herd, but his brother felt more important than his life. Always has.
When his eyes caught sight of Louis' signature blond hair in the distance, he felt his heart beat again. After Kai called out, Louis spotted him too. It seemed as if he had been looking for him as well. Kai felt himself pick up the pace, running towards his brother as if reaching him would end his nightmare.
They were getting closer and closer, and Kai already felt ten times safer just being near Louis. Nothing could pull them apart this time, except for gunshots that were heard near them. Catching both of their attention.
Both brothers stopped in their tracks, looking at the source of the noise. Maggie was running away from a swarm of walkers. She was fighting them off as best she could with a gun and only a few bullets. She needed help , she would die otherwise.
Louis and Kai looked at each other, and Kai could see in Louis' eyes what he was going to do. The only thing stopping him was Kai. Louis felt like he had to choose between Maggie and Kai. He knew he would pick Kai, but Kai still had time to run and hide. Maggie didn't, she had a few seconds left. So Kai nodded his head. Knowing his brother was a hero and that Maggie needed him more right now.
After Louis got the confirmation from Kai, he sprinted towards Maggie, towards danger. Shooting down the walkers that were grabbing at her ankles. He cleared himself a path, pushing and shooting walkers to get to Maggie.
Once he did, and once he had helped her stand back up, he turned around, ready to head back to his brother, but the path he had taken vanished. More walkers just covered their exit, leaving them both stuck now.
That was until Maggie pulled at Louis's arm, turning him around to make a run for the ladder. Maggie went first, and Louis held off the walkers until it was good for him to go after her. The dead were grabbing at his legs, trying their hardest to pull him down. He could feel the ladder give out, and he was able to grip the side of the watchpost, but his arms started to shake, and the pressure the walkers were adding to him was making it difficult. He couldn't hold on much longer.
