IN THE HOUSE PT.2
———

KAI ANXIOUSLY AWAITED FOR THE WALKERS TO LEAVE, to lose interest and wander off. But because of the ones that were already inside, it was only drawing more. Entrapping them in the house. All Kai could do was continue to peek out the window, along with a few of the others, to try and keep track of the number of walkers that surrounded them. Not just them, but all the streets of Alexandria, invading their home as if it were their own.

There was nothing they could do from inside but watch it all happen. Watch them overrun their town.

From the window that Kai looked out at, he could faintly see the tower that Louis and Maggie were on. Only a bit of it, but enough to see the figures of them both sitting on top and enough to see the walkers that surrounded them. Kai couldn't tear his eyes away from the sight, he wanted to, but it was eating him alive to be just watching without being able to do anything. But he was waiting for something, and he didn't know what that was.

"Did ya see Rory?" Carl asked from beside Kai, who didn't know he was even there.

Kai jumped a bit, but Carl didn't see it as he was also looking out the window.

"Yeah, she went into a garage with Rosita, Eugene, and Tara." Kai told him, and he could see the worry on his face, "She's safe. She made it to safety."

A silence fell over them, both of them just staring out into the sea of walkers. Kai was still avoiding eye contact with Carl since he had broken Ron's nose and threatened to do a lot worse. That wasn't like Kai, he didn't know he had that in him, but when the moment came, it was all he wanted to do.

The truth is, Kai has always felt at war with himself, like there was something else inside of him. Something dark, something that would claw its way to the surface. He knows what it is, he knows why he's like this, his mother was never a good person. She had darkness all around her heart that allowed her to hurt him and his siblings. She was evil and cruel, and Kai is afraid that he might end up just like her.

Watching Ron tremble with fear in his hands unlocked that feeling. Now he was scared of it and everything that it meant. He knew the second he looked at Carl, he'd see it in his eyes.

"Kai? Are you okay?" Carl asked, seeing that Kai was deep in thought.

"Mhm," Kai hummed a response with no emotion or thought behind it, "I'm fine."

"It's fine, don't have to talk about it." Carl nodded, understanding that it wasn't going to be easy. "But no lying."

Kai let out a tired sigh, his heart aching from all these feelings and emotions he had felt just in the past 2 days.

"Of course I'm not fine, Carl." Kai said, with a tone of attitude and annoyance, "Deanna's dying. Louis' stuck in a watch tower, and Maeve is stuck on the other side of the wall. Ron tried to kill you, and I wanted to kill him. I did kill someone. So there, we're talking about how it feels like my life is falling apart. Happy?"

Finally, Kai looked Carl in the eyes. He saw that Carl just wanted to help but didn't know how. Kai immediately regretted his words and the attitude he gave him, he was just so caught up in his head that he didn't think of his words and the potential harm they could cause.

But Carl did not seem to mind it, he knew that it was a lot for him and knew this was bound to happen. Carl just wished he was better at communicating so that he could help Kai, his sister and mom were always good at that.
