SWIMMING LESSONS
———

WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT that sleeping on the floor of a uhaul was uncomfortable, Rory had been tossing and turning all night long trying to find some sort of night's rest. Just when she truly did feel sleep creeping up on her, and as she was welcoming the wonderful dreams to bless her sleep—she was being woken up.

The hand that shook her shoulder began her enemy as she swatted it away, already know who it was by the soft mumbling of words. Her father kneeled beside her whispering, "Time to get up, Ro." The tone in his voice irritated her, it was soft and caring, it was too fatherly.

Rory was mad at him, although she felt guilty for being mad at him—she still wanted him to know she was mad. It was confusing for her, part of her didn't want to blame him, but the other part did. They were in this situation because he didn't want to get them out of it, her husband was taken in front of him and he didn't stop it. Everything was just going wrong, and the closest person she could blame was him—which isn't something new to Rick.

"Morning," Rick snickered slightly watching as his daughter pushed herself up from the ground, her hair a mess and eyes barely open. Rory was never a morning person, Louis was, she liked mornings waking up next to him. It made them better, it didn't matter if they were in the woods or in a bed, or even if they were in the back of a uhaul. She loved mornings with him.

Just then, Aaron lifted up the back of the uhaul, letting in the morning light as it blinded her momentarily. Once Rory got over the blinding light, she stretched out her still tired bones. Rory is gathering up her things and stuffing them back into her bag, when she hears Aaron say, "Well that's new."

"What's new?" Rick asks as he steps up to the edge of the truck with him. Rory throws her bag over her shoulder as she peaks over her dad to see what they were looking at. It was a sign stuck in the ground that read, 'keep going only thing here 4 you is trouble'

There was no way they could turn back now, they couldn't go home empty handed. So, naturally, the two men jumped out of the truck first. Rick turning around and holding out his hand for his daughter to help her jump down, but she looked at it and did it herself. Not wanting to accept his help.

Rick sighed slightly at this, but turned back to the current situation. They approached the warning sign, it was a wooden sign with the world painted on. It left them wondering what laid beyond this point, not knowing slightly worried them all.

"We have today and only today to find somethin'. They could be back by tomorrow, could be back now." Rick stated, something they already knew but he was right. The saviours were coming to collect, and they needed to have something to offer them. If they were empty, who knows what Negan would do.

Rory nods her head, seeing that there was an entire forrest around them, the trees worked as perfect natural shield. A way to protect them from whatever might possibly be out there.

"We stick to the trees, stay off the road and out of the open. Make it hard for anyone to try anything." Rory planned out loud, which earned an approving nod from her father and Aaron.

"Good idea, keep our eyes open for anything that moves." Aaron agreed, just before he was the first one to climb over the wooden fence. Rory was next, jumping over it as Rory grabbed Aaron's extended hand as he offered her help. Rick saw this, and knew it was his daughter's way of being mad at him.
