A NEW BEGINNING
———

THE STREETS OF ALEXANDRIA were silent and filled with the bodies of the dead. The living gathered around the infirmary, those who were injured inside, those who weren't sat outside and never dared to utter a word. They stared at their once clean and pure streets, that were now filled with blood and death. Although it didn't mean anything bad, it only meant that Alexandria had a new beginning. A new life ahead of them that would build a stronger life for them all.

Inside, Daryl sat on a chair where Denise worked on his back, stitching up the wound he managed to get along the way. Milo stood beside him, they talked about everything that happened to them. On one of the beds was Maggie, with Glenn sitting beside her. Across from them was Maeve, Louis by her side while Kai re-stitched Maeve's arm, seeing as the ones Milo put it didn't last very long.

Maeve's attention was grabbed by the sound of the door swinging open, Rosita rushing in looking around frantically. Her eyes softened when they landed on Milo, she let a breath of relief as she practically ran to him. Throwing her arms tightly around him, and he hugged her back just as tight. Over Rosita's shoulder, Milo looked at Maeve who was smirking at him. He flipped her off before Rosita pulled away.

Maeve turned her attention to her youngest brother who worked on her. When she was reunited with Kai, he seemed shocked for a moment and seemed as if he were going to cry but almost immediately snapped out of it and demanding he fix her up her wounds. That's where they sat now, her wounds being treated in silence, but that's enough for her. Just to be with him and Louis made all the difference, made it all worth it.

The time seemed to pass by because next thing she knew, Kai was done. He grabbed all the supplies he had been using and started to put them away, leaving Maeve and Louis. The blonde girl dropped her head onto her brother's shoulder, taking in his warmth.

Seconds later she felt a hand squeeze her shoulder momentarily, looking up at Glenn who was walking by. They shared a friendly smile, something new and unfamiliar to her, but it was nice. His hand left her shoulder, and he continued on her way.

"Maeve," Louis voice sounded strained, but he managed to speak clear enough as he said, "Something happened to Elliott."

This had caught Maeve's attention, making her turned to him fully. Worry filled her eyes and Louis immediately reassured her that he was fine, more specifically that he was alive.

"He got hurt but Kai fixed him up, he's upstairs unconscious." Louis informed her, still she was missing key details like how did he get hurt? How bad is it? "You should go see him,"

"Alright," Maeve nodded her head, looking behind her at Kai talking to Denise most likely about Carl, "Keep an eye on him. He'll come to us when he needs us."

Then, Maeve stood up, holding onto Louis's hand until she physically couldn't extend her arm anymore. She didn't want to let go of him, ever again. Never be apart from her brothers like that. But this feeling, the feeling that she won. That Alexandria won, almost made it feel worth it. They were alive, every important to her was, and she feels like she even has some new... acquaintances. If that's the right word.

It didn't matter. She just knew that this was the start of something new, something so beautiful that she knows she'll hate it. Maybe it's time she stops trying to fight against that and fight with it instead.
