AMBUSH PT.2
———

MEN WERE FLOODING OUT FROM THE THREES, pointing their guns at the three standing on the other end of the tracks as the one man in front shouted, "You drop 'em now!"

It felt like that had no other choice, they were out number severely. This was a stand off, one they were bound to lose if they opened fire right now. If Daryl wanted Kai to walk out of here, he had to, no matter how much he knew he shouldn't. It was the safest bet for Kai, that's why he lowered his gun, tossing it on the ground along with Rosita's.

Now that his arm was free, he put it behind him, grabbing onto Kai's shirt and pulling him closer. Kai latched on instinctively. Daryl could feel that the teenage boy was shaking slightly, and be the way that Kai slipped his hand around Daryl's arm, he knew that the boy was scared. Not because of the men that were shoving their guns in their face, he didn't seem fazed by that, it was Denise.

Suddenly, a familiar face was thrown to their knees in front of them. Eugene. He was brought to his knees while looking around through sweat and tears, appearing more terrified than the seventeen year old boy.

Kai could hear Daryl's furious panting as the man with a half melted face says to him, "You got something to say to me? You gonna clear the air? Step up on that high horse? No. That's right, you don't talk much."

Other men started to approach them, demanding to search them for any other weapons they might have. When a man stepped towards Kai, Daryl pushed him further behind him and shielded him with his body.

The man, that only Daryl knew as Dwight, says "Oh, is this your boy Daryl? Never mentioned you had a kid." Dwight grinned from ear to ear leaning over to get a look at Kai, "Best move out of the way or I'll have to kill Eugene here if you don't."

Dwight pointed what was once Daryl's crossbow at Eugene's head, causing Daryl to clench his fist and not give up Kai. Even for a body search, the idea of these men touching him, like what Maeve told him they did in the woods—made Daryl's blood come to a boil.

If it hadn't been for Kai's act of strength, who gently grabbed shook of Daryl's hand from himself and stepped out into the exposed sight of the Saviours, Daryl wouldn't have moved. As their bags for searched and there things got stolen, Daryl never let his eyes leave Kai and the man who was patting him down. Kai looked up at the sky, praying for this all to be one big sick twisted dream.

Daryl only looks away to say to Dwight in a low, angry grumbling voice, "I should've done it. I should've killed you."

"You probably should've," Dwight nods his head, agreeing. Then, his eyes drift towards the body that laid on the ground that was growing colder second by second, "I mean, I get that you'll just have to take my word on this, but she wasn't even the one I was aiming for."

Then, his eyes drift to Kai, almost like he knew that if it had been Kai to drop dead. Things would be going a lot differently right now, and that's how a guilt washed over Kai. Knowing that it should've been him who was dead, Denise is supposed to be the one standing here not him. She deserved life more, not him.

"Look, this isn't how we like to start new business arrangements but, well, you pricks kind of set the tone, didn't you?" Dwight taunts them, then he looks between both Rosita and Kai as he says, "You're going to let us into your little complex, it just looks so beautiful in there. Then you're going to let us take whatever and whoever we want...or we blow Eugene's brows out, then hers."
