Chapter 04: Meet the crew

Shadow and Sonic exited the college building with extended sighs. They were tiered out from writing and thinking, wrists hurting to an indescribable degree. Sonic was the first to speak up as the duo walked down the stairs.
"I could really go for a cold coke and a chili dog right now..." His muttering caught the ebony hedgehog's attention, deciding that conversation would be a good pass time.
"In all honesty; so could I." Sonic lit up and looked at Shadow with a bright smile.
"You like chili dogs too?"
"Yeah? The spicier, the better."

Sonic looked at Shadow with a look of admiration. The prideful look on his face was so distracting as he spoke, as if the blue hedgehog was in a trance. Then again, he only began interacting with the ebony hedgehog two days ago. He wanted to say something when suddenly, Sonic was tackled to the ground. His eyes went wide as he fell to the ground with a large weight on his back. For once, he was too slow to react.

"Sonic!!" A light voice called out to him. It was Tails who was calling out to him, which meant the only one who was crazy enough to tackle him to the ground was Knuckles.
"Knuckles get off me!" Sonic said in a struggle as he felt his ribcage shattering into dust particles within him.
"Hah! Give up so easily, Hedgehog?" Knuckles got off the abused younger man. Sonic stayed on the ground, all energy squeeze out of him like a tube of toothpaste.

Shadow gasped as he saw the flattened out hedgehog on the ground. Both him and Tails ran down to him and helped him stand.
"Sonic, are you alright!? Knuckles! I thought we agreed to-"
"Not tackle anymore. Whatever, fox."
Tails began to argue with Knuckles while Shadow helped Sonic stand up straight.

"You alright?" Shadow asked, looking at Sonic with concern. Sonic looked him in his apple red eyes, the comfort warming his heart. He seemingly forgot about his vaporized ribs. He smiled and nodded, the wind still knocked out of him.
"Yeah, I'm ok now. Thanks."

"So Sonic. Who's your friend?" Tails asked as the squad walked to a chili dog stand that was conveniently nearby.
"Oh! This is Shadow! I never really got the chance to introduce you guys, have I?" He thought for a moment. He was so caught up with the sudden overflow of studies, he didn't even remember to introduce everyone.

"Well, hi, I'm Miles Prower, but you can call me Tails." Miles introduced himself and held out a hand for Shadow to shake.
"I'm Shadow Robotnik. Pleasure meeting you." He took Miles' hand with gratitude and shook it gently but firmly, like you would at a business meeting.
"And I'm Knuckles Echidna, but you can call me Knuckles." Knuckles said, offering a hand to Shadow. When the ebony hedgehog grabbed Knuckles hand, the echidna shook it quickly and violently, and Shadow could barely keep walking because of how he was thrown off balance.

While Tails and Knuckles had already taken their leave with their chili dogs, Shadow and Sonic stayed near the stand.
"You have very interesting friends, Sonic. Their so... Extroverted and energetic. I think I understand now why you guys are friends." Shadow commented as the two watched the red and yellow duo walk away in the distance, laughing about something.
Sonic smiled at them, catching Shadows attention.
"Yeah. We've been friends since grade school. Truly, both of them are one-of-a-kind." Shadow looked at Sonic's face for a moment, only to look away and agree.
