Chapter 17: Month early cookies

"And... And... I... I... I!" Shadow stuttered out. He was burning embers with how much he was blushing. His composure did not exist as he tried to get his breathing steady.
"I... I just wanted to say... That I... I... I lo-lov-MMFFFF!!" He placed his hands on his face and fell back on his mattress. This was not working out for him. He separated his fingers to see his own reflection in the mirror. If he couldn't practice with his own reflection, how was he supposed to actually say it to his crush?

"This is absolutely ridiculous!" He sighed, angry with himself. Shadow sat up crosslegged on his bed, the small slivers of light shining through the window and snow. 'Right, we're still snowed in...' Shadow concluded, though he knew that the snow would be gone by the end of the week. Suddenly, the loudness of something falling and someone yelling caught his attention and brought it to the door. He tilted his head curiously. 'What is that hedgehog up to?' He wondered as he stood up from his bed and walked out of his room.

In the kitchen, Sonic was picking up a metal bowl of some kind for some reason.
"Sonic, what are you doing?" The ebony hedgehog asked, rubbing his eyes from the bright lights in the kitchen. Sonic snapped his neck into the direction of his dark counterpart, only to smile brightly at him and causing Shadow to blush a bit.
"Shadz hey! I'm making chocolate chip cookies! Wanna help?"
"Um... Sure? Aren't we a few months early though?" Shadow asked as he walked next to Sonic who chuckled. His face turned a bit red as he averted his gaze.

"Well, actually; I was craving some cookies. I would have bought them if we weren't... Y'know..."
"Snowed in? I get it. Let's get to work then." Shadow said, turning to get the dry ingredients from the cabinet. Sonic paused for a moment and looked at Shadow crouch down to grab the flower and sugar. A smile spread out on his muzzle as he turned to grab the wet ingredients from the fridge.
"Yeah."

While Sonic mixed the batter for the cookies, Shadow was preparing the oven for use. Sonic then realized they were missing the most important- and obvious- ingredient.
"Hey Shadz, could you grab the chocolate chips from the top shelf?"
"Sure thing."

Despite being taller than the blue hedgehog- by barely an inch- Shadow could not reach the shelf. He climbed on to the kitchen counter and held on to the shelf for much needed stability. He grabbed the chips with no problem. However his grip on the shelf began to slip and he fell backwards. He closed his eyes as he awaited the hard impact of the floor on his back and head, but it never came. Once Shadow opened his red eyes to see what was going on, he was met with a pair of green emeralds looking back at him. His face grew red. 'Oh my Chaos he is strong' Shadow thought as he held the chips for dear life.

Sonic smiled at the Hedgehog he was carrying. He was surprisingly light for his hight and build. The blue blur looked down at the blushing mess in his arms that was Shadow. 'Cute' "Fallen from grace?" He asked, giving the stripped hedgehog a wink. Shadow recollected his composure, the blush on his face thinning out a bit, and rolled his eyes while scoffing.
"Get off your high horse and put me down." Sonic hummed in thought before giving an answer.
"Nope!"
"Sonic!!"
