Chapter 22: It's just a prank, bro

'Sonic stood patiently while Shadow fixed up his suit. His eyes were shimmering as his gaze moved up to look at the blue blur.
"You've got to look presentable if we're going to go to Silver's wedding."
"But I always look presentable."
"Sure you do." The ebony hedgehog laughed at the azure one as he finished fixing the tie. Shadow gave Sonic a kiss on the cheek which the now blushing blue hedgehog returned.
"Let's go now."
"Y-yeah."'

Sonic slowly blinked as he awoke from his dream.

It was an early morning on the first day of April. Shadow was getting ready in the mirror of the hallway. Working on Sundays was not ideal, especially if he had to keep an eye out for tasteless jokes. Sonic soon walked out of his room, looking disheveled as ever. His shirt was buttoned up all but correctly, his overalls were hanging on by a thread and his quills looked like he'd jumped into a mass of spikes and decided to become one. The ebony hedgehog looked at this in disbelief. Sure the blue counterpart should be half awake, but that didn't take away the fact that he was still half asleep.

Shadow sighed and walked up to the yawning hedgehog.
"Come here, you look like you are suffering from a hangover."
"A hang over of extra spicy chili dogs! I don't even know how you could eat them and not go up in flames." Shadow hummed, dismissing what Sonic was whining about.
"Let me fix you up." He said as he began to un- and re-button his shirt, before adjusting his overall straps. Sonic mumbled something as he slowly slipped out of his half-asleep trance.
"I had a dream where you were doing a very similar thing to this..."
"Is that so? Well, I guess you can look into the future." Shadow responded as he finished his coworker up.

Sonic punched Shadow's shoulder.
"Screw you!"
"Alright, play time is over, Sonic." Shadow said as he rubbed his shoulder, disregarding the fact Sonic's limp punch didn't hurt him at all. Sonic smiled widely and threw an arm around Shadow's shoulder, flashing a big smile. 'Well he woke up fast.' Shadow thought.
"Operation: April Fool's is in full swing!"
"I hate that name."
"You know you love it." Shadow rolled his eyes before the two walked out of the dormitory and to his motorcycle. They climbed on and off they were.

"Silver said we need to go to the beach for the boats. But first we need to find Mephiles." Shadow said as he made a sharp turn to the left, making Sonic tighten his grip on Shadow's waist.
"Um, Shadz? I don't think that'll be necessary..."
"Why?"
"Because he found us." Shadow turned his gaze to the black and yellow sports car that was racing next to them. Inside the car, Mephiles was driving and waving at them. He obviously must have stolen it, Mephiles didn't own a car.

Shadow thought for a moment, his face expressing surprise, until he settled on a competitive smile and he began to accelerate.
"This makes things easier. Hold on tight Sonic, things are about to become interesting." Sonic scoffed and rolled his eyes.
"You better not get us killed!"
"Now I'll try extra hard to."
"SHADOW!!"

The chase was on. The sound of two drastically different vehicles zooming around at high speeds in the direction of Angel Beach. Mephiles blindly followed his cousin who was making turn after turn and dodging multiple parked cars.

The grey menace eventually got tired form only the chase and decided to spice things up. The poked his head out of the car window and began to shoot his pistol. Shadow dogged the bullets but became annoyed.
"Sonic! Take my pistol and shoot that fool!" Sonic nodded and did as told.

Despite the people who were screaming and trying to call the police, nothing could be done. The Robotniks had told the Police that they'd be the ones to take care of Mephiles and they shouldn't intervene.

The beach was in close proximity, the hedgehogs could smell the sand and salty water. A rush of adrenaline overcame the motorcycling duo as Shadow went full speed in the direction of the beach.

This was really happening. They were really going to set the plan in motion.

Once at the beach, they got off the motorcycle and ran into the sand. Mephiles drove right into Shadow's motorbike, breaking and setting both the car and motorcycle ablaze. He jumped out the car before the collision happened.
"Fuck you! That was my favorite bike!" The ebony hedgehog yelled, ready to give Mephiles a piece of his mind with Sonic holding him back. Mephiles got up from the ground. He dusted himself off and held his pistols on hand.
"He really likes to use two, huh?" Sonic whispered to no one in particular.

"Give it up, twerps! You have no chance!" Mephiles said, his crazed lime eyes twitching. He was in much physical pain but he refused to admit it. The only thing driving him was the thought of killing the two hedgehogs that blocked his path.

"Sonic, you remember how to drive a boat, right?"
"Of course. You didn't teach me for nothing."
"Good. Go ahead and get it started. I'll meet you there in five."
"Got it, boss man." Sonic ran off to the boat, Mephiles' gaze being stuck on his cousin. He didn't notice the blue one run off.

"I'm sorry, did I ruffled your quills with that one? Didn't mean to wreck your bike."
"No hard feelings! Didn't mean to wreck your face last year."
"No... Har...d... Feeling at all." He was gritting his teeth beneath his mask. Shadow hoped that all this anger building up would hopefully come in clutch later.
"You know what, punk!? I don't even need these to beat your ass into oblivion!" He screeched as he threw his guns into the sand. Shadow smirked.
"You must have some balls to pull that move. But if you insist." Shadow put his gun in his pocket and got into a stance to charge at his cousin.
"Give me all you've got."

Sonic got the engine purring as he sat in the driver's seat. Sure had no boating license, but who needs that when you're about to engage in the most awesome moment of your life? He turned to look at the two hedgehogs battling it out with their bare fists. Shadow was strategically guiding Mephiles to the boat. The plan might be a bit different than he'd expect but it would still be successful.

Shadow eventually got thrown on to the boat, Mephiles jumped on the water vessel as well.
"Sonic, now! Drive!" Shadow said as he dodged an attack form the enraged hedgehog. Sonic stepped on the gas pedal and they were off.

Sonic concentrated on the island he needed to go to, ignoring the water he feared so much. 'If I'm in a boat I won't drown. This isn't the Titanic!' Sonic thought to himself.

Shadow was on top of the boat, Mephiles throwing punch after punch, blinded by rage. Shadow uppercut him in the chin, forcing him to the ground. Before completely distorting his cousins face, he took away all of the fire arms he might have, including the smoke bombs.
"Shadow! The island is in close proximity!" Sonic said as he accelerated as the Tilted Towers Prison came into view.

"Good! Keep going!"

By the time they got there, Mephiles was knocked out cold. Silver was waiting there for them along with Mr Robotnik and some agents that worked for them on behalf of other matters. They took Mephiles off of the duo's arms and brought him to his cell.

"You guys successfully brought him here! I'm so proud of you! I never doubted either of you!" Silver said as he clasped his hands together. Shadow rolled his eyes while Sonic scratched the back of his head.
"Thank you for bringing Mephiles here. He should no longer cause us any trouble." Mr Robotnik said as he nodded.

Sonic threw an arm around Shadow's shoulder, flashing him a smile.
"Looks like operation: April Fool's was a success!"
"I still hate that name."
