Sonadow: Coincidence

Chapter 12: After events

Sonic sat by Shadow. He had made very quick progress in recovery. Amy walked into the room with a cup of water. She placed it on Shadow's desk before sitting next to Sonic.
"You've been keeping watch over him all day Sonic. Has he woken up yet?" Sonic shook his head. He was starting to think Shadow may never wake up. Amy noticed his distress and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Hey, don't be sad now. He's been through much worse." She said. Sonic looked at her in confusion.
"How so?"

"One time he had food poisoning because of the food he was given at a meeting. Another time he broke his arm. So being knocked out is nothing to him." Amy said, waving a dismissive hand. Sonic looked at her, then back at Shadow. He really hoped that Amy was right and wasn't just saying that.
"Hey, don't worry. He'll wake up in due time, Sonic." The pink hedgehog said, flashing the worried blue hedgehog a smile. Sonic forced a smile.
"I hope you're right..." After Sonic said those words, Shadow began to stir in his unconsciousness.

Shadow opened his eyes to be met with four pairs of green eyes. He blinked and the four pairs turned into two. One pair of eyes closed and sighed in relief while the other pair jumped closer and hugged him. When he fully came to, he realized the sighing green eyes belonged to Amy, while the ones hugging him belonged to Sonic.
"I'm so glad you're ok! What happened?" Sonic asked. Shadow blushed a bit at how close they were.

"Nothing bad. I only got a gun handle to the head. What about the files?" Sonic withdrew from the hug and looked away in shame. Shadow looked at Amy for guidance.
"Sonic said he tripped and when he dropped the files, probably Mephiles, shot through them. The are damaged but nothing important was lost." She said.
"Oh... I see."
"Would you like me to bring you some apple slices?"
"Yes please." Amy exited the room.

He realized that he was in his office, on the couch in the corner of the room. He looked at Sonic who still didn't look at him.
"Sonic? Are you alright? Did you get hurt in anyway when Mephiles attacked?" Shadow asked. Sonic shook his head.
"I'm ok... But I failed you.."
"No you didn't. Nothing important was lost, remember?" Shadow sat up and tried to reassure Sonic that everything was alright.
"But I-"
Shadow took Sonic's hands into his own. The two locked eyes. Sonic blushed at the contact.

"Listen to me. You did your best. And I won't blame you for the files getting damaged. You had no business being there, but you still tried to bring the files back. You didn't fail me, Sonic. You didn't fail anybody." He said. Sonic stayed silent for a moment. He leaned forward and hugged Shadow tightly, him hugging back just as tight.
"Thanks Shadz."
"Don't mention it."
