Chapter 10: Mephiles' files

The following day, Silver picked up Sonic and Shadow from college. He was in a black car waiting for the two to exit the building. Once they got in the car, Silver began to explain.
"We need to go and collect some files regarding Mephiles. Apparently, they've been mailed from where he was kept." Sonic, still confused from the events of the day before, decided to question.
"Come again? What files?"
"Birth certificate, behavior documents, all that stuff. We might need it to track him down." Shadow responded, looking at Sonic while he listed off the items with his finger.

"If he doesn't find us first, that is." Silver muttered before pulling in the driveway of a different building. This one looked like a skyscraper as well, only it was smaller in size. The trio left the car and entered the building via a key card. They walked in until they were met by a tall man.
"Mr Robotnik told us all we need to know. If you'll follow me, please."

The hedgehogs followed the man into a room with many computer screens. On the largest one were some documents of behavioral patterns.
"These are the behavioral patterns sent in from the asylum he was kept in. We will make some copies for you to transport physically to your father." The man turned to them again, only with a frown this time.
"But beware. According to the doctors at the asylum, he kept repeating something along the lines of 'it should have been me'. We don't know what he means, but you better be careful."

"Thank you. We'll be taking these to RC in no time." Silver said as he followed the man to the file room where the copies were held. Meanwhile, Sonic and Shadow had to wait. Sonic decided to take that chance and figure out more of who they were up against.
"So tell me, Shadz. What's up exactly with this evil cousin of yours?" Shadow's ear twitched as he wasn't expecting any questions in relation to Mephiles from Sonic. He began to think for a bit.
"Before Silver or I were introduced to the family, Mephiles was supposed to take over our fathers business, as be was the only candidate for taking over, despite his... Abnormal behavior." He explained.

"But when we came into the picture, we were then put in charge. This caused Mephiles to fall into a rage and he became hostile twords us. He was evils incarnate to me. So when he was taken away to the asylum, we could finally breath again. However, not only did he manage to escape the asylum but he's also on the lookout for us, most likely." Sonic nodded.
"So that's what he means with the 'it should have been me' thing..."
"That's what I think as well."

Soon, Silver returned from the room, a yellow envelope of files in his hands. He smiled as they had successfully retrieved what they came for.
"Alright guys, let's hit the road. We've got some mail delivering to do!"
