Sonadow: Coincidence

Chapter 19: The mission

Both hedgehogs took a stroll down the city. It was quiet and calm. The stars in the sky were perfectly visible and the ambient smell was fairly calming. It would have been so romantic if they didn't have a mission to do first.
"Remember, keep your eyes and ears open for anything suspicious." Shadow reminded, whispering in Sonic's direction. He nodded in return.

After a bit of walking, they came to a sudden stop. On top of a car, planting something on the roof of it was a grey hedgehog with teal stripes and a mask. He noticed them and with crazy lime eyes he looked at them.
"Hello dear cousin!" He said and jumped off of the car, approaching them. Both Sonic and Shadow took a stance to take out their guns. Mephiles looked at Sonic and tilted his head a bit.
"And my cousins boyfriend?" Sonic turned red like the paint.
"He's not my boyfriend!"
"I'm not his boyfriend!" The two said in unison.

Mephiles shrugged and took out his own guns.
"Whatever. Your relationship is non of my concern. What is my concern is to have both of you be dead!"
"In your dreams you dirty rodent!" Shadow was the first to be shot, though he managed to dodge. Sonic ran to the car to see what that crazy man hand planted.

A timed bomb.
His face went pale as he immediately tried to either remove or defuse it.
"Come on, come on, come on!"

Meanwhile, Shadow and Mephiles were battling it out. Shot after shot. All missing. At some point, Shadow's gun had run out of bullets so he was left to his martial arts. Mephiles tackled him on to the ground and tried to shot him, though Shadow bit his arm and Mephiles dropped both his guns, stepping back from his cousin in pain. Shadow grabbed both guns, realizing one one was empty.
"Sonic! Throw me your pistol!"

Despite Sonic working on the bomb he still found the time to throw his pistol to Shadow who caught it without a problem. The blue blur was sweating, getting rid of each cable, detaching to slowly from the car.

Shadow shot the guns, stepping ever so closely to his cousin who was struggling to dodge the bullets.
"Give up yet, Mephiles?"
"No!" As soon as he said that, Shadow ran out of bullets. He tossed the guns aside and began to throw a punch at his cousin. They kicked, blocked, punched and dodged, holding out to see who had the most stamina and could last through the battle.
"For an old homeless guy you have good aim." Shadow said. Mephiles scoffed and rolled his eyes, only for Shadow to punch him square in the face.

"Got it!" Sonic whispered victoriously as he held the bomb in his hand. He turned to see four guns spread out on the road and the two cousins fighting. Shadow had pinned Mephiles to the ground and was punching the hell out of him.
"Shadz! I've got the explosive!"
"Toss it to me!"
"Ok!" Sonic jumped off the car and threw the bomb to his roommate. Shadow grabbed the bomb and, with some wires, he attached it to his cousins neck.
Mephiles took out a smoke bomb from his pocket and ignited it, making him disappear from beneath his cousin.

He reappeared on top of the same car.
"Asta la vista, idiots." He threw another smoke bomb on to the car. Mephiles disappeared but the bomb remained, causing an explosion.

"Fuck!" Shadow said as he kicked a gun that was on the ground. Sonic put a hand on his shoulder.
"We'll get him next time."
"We better."
