Sonadow: Coincidence

Chapter 20: Christmas gift

Time passed at light speed. Before they knew it, Christmas day was marked on the calendar. Despite what happened with Mephiles the other month, Sonic and Shadow were going to celebrate the special time of the year at Sonics mom's house, since the Robotniks cared very little about events like that.

Shadow looked at himself in his mirror. He wore a green pullover under his unzipped leather jacket. He clenched his fist as he sighed.
"Today is the day. I'm going to tell him." He whispered to himself. He walked out of his room to see Sonic waiting for him. He wore a red sweater and a red Santa hat. When he noticed the ebony hedgehog, a large smile spread across his face.
"Hey Shadz! Are you ready to go?"
"Ready as I'll ever be."

At the Hedgehog residents, everyone was sat at the Christmas tree. They were talking and having fun. Shadow wasn't used to celebrating Christmas. In fact, he always saw it as some holiday that people celebrated out of habit, not because they actually cared about what it was originally meant for. Not like he knew or cared.
He decided to sit on the couch and watch the grandfather clock tick away.

Something was placed on his head after a while. A hat similar to the one Sonic wore earlier that day. Beside him sat that very same hedgehog.
"Hey Shadow! I know it's a bit early, but I got you a gift!" He smiled and handed Shadow a small box.
"A present? Sonic, I don't-"
"I know. But I thought it would be nice to give you something. I'm hoping you like it." Shadow smiled at the box. It was small and red with a green ribbon. He opened it.

A necklaces. The chain was gold and a green emerald was the charm for it. He looked up at Sonic with disbelief.
"Sonic, this is..."
"And we are matching." Sonic grabbed the into his pullover and took out a similar necklace with a silver chain and a red emerald. Shadow smiled even more and looked back down to the gift.
"Sonic... This is beautiful. Thank you. But I didn't get anything for you.." He said, his smile dropping as he looked back up at Sonic.

"Don't be sad. Your smile and happiness is a gift enough for me! -- I did not just say that." Sonic said, cupping his own face. Shadow chuckled and put on the necklace, thinking nothing of what Sonic had just said.
"You are so dumb." He said, giving Sonic a side glance. Sonic laughed and put an arm around Shadows shoulder, pulling him into a hug.

The rest of the night went by fine and they had dinner. Everyone bid each other goodnight as the college duo had to leave. They decide to walk, as they took the bus to get to Sonic's home.

"Hey Sonic? There's something I want to tell you." 'Come on Shadow. You can do this!' Sonic turned to look at Shadow.
"Yeah? What's up?"
"Um..." 'You can do it, you can do it, you can do it...'
"Tonight was fun." Shadow said. Sonic smiled and agreed.

'You can't do it. Maybe next time...'
