It was the 5th week of summer break.
Sonic sat on the couch. His eyes were glued on his phone. He was scrolling away on social media, his eyes seeing couple after couple appear on his screen. How badly he wished to be like those happy people; in a relationship. He could only dream of that. All his life he had concentrated on studying and now that he's finally developed a crush on someone, he has no idea on how to proceed. Sonic wasn't sure if he had a chance, but he wasn't going to give up... Yet at least. And no matter how many times he told himself that Shadow might be straight, that would be no valid excuse to give up.

It wouldn't be valid for Sonic at least.

Shadow soon appeared in front of the blue hedgehog. Sonic looked up to meet the pretty red eyes he liked so much.
"Sonic, I have a surprise."
"Do you?"
"Yeah. Come to the parking lot in five minutes." Could that ebony hedgehog be more vague? With that, he left the scene and the dorm. As curious as Sonic was, he didn't want to ruin the surprise. So he waited five minutes that felt like five years. When the time was up he got up from the couch and sprinted to see what it was. Was it a dinosaur? A Honda? Was it something extraterrestrial!? Sonic didn't know, but he knew it was non of the first three options.

He met up with Shadow at the entrance of the parking lot. His green eyes held in more excitement that any child on Christmas. Shadow smiled at him.
"Close your eyes and no peeking, ok?" The dark hedgehog said as Sonic closed his eyes. A huff escaped him.
"Alright but I can't see!"
"I'll lead you where you need to go." Even though Sonic couldn't see, he could feel Shadow grab his hand. It felt as though he was reluctant of taking the blue ones hand but he did anyways. They walked for a small amount of time. Sonic felt something get placed on his head and in a panic he opened his eyes a bit.
"Sonic, I kinda need you to open your eyes for this part."

Sonic opened his eyes to be met with a helmet on his head and a brand new motorcycle. The polish looked shiny and new.
"Don't get disappointed, this isn't the surprise." Shadow said as they both got on the bike. Shadow told Sonic to close his eyes and hold on tight as they drove off into the distance.

After a bit of driving, they came to a sudden stop. Shadow took Sonic's hands off himself.
"Open your eyes and get off the bike, we still have our ways to go." Sonic did as told and got off the bike, taking off the helmet and giving it to Shadow. He didn't even have enough time to see where they were before he was told to close his eyes again. They walked farther, the darkness in Sonic's vision resulting in nothing promising.

"Open your eyes." Shadow said when they stopped walking. Sonic opened his eyes and his jaw almost hit the floor. A white and red checkered blanket was on the grassy floor of their safe haven. A basket sat on top of it, and a glass bottle of water was near it.
"Ta-da?"
"Shadow... What's all this for?" The azure hedgehog asked, blush creeping on to his face. Shadow blushed and looked off to the side, scratching the back of his head.

"I don't know... The weather was nice and you looked bored... I thought, maybe we could use this to spend some time together? A-as friends, of course." 'Super smooth, Shadow.' The ebony hedgehog thought to himself.

They walked to and sat on the blanket, taking out some sandwiches Shadow had made. They ate and talked until the sun was past the horizon. A day well spent.
