Sonic grabbed cup from the counter and filled it up with orange juice. He turned to Shadow who was finishing some homework. He thought for a moment.
"Hey Shadz. Wanna go somewhere cool?" Shadow looked over the couch into the kitchen. His face read sceptic.
"And where would that be?"
"Somewhere cool. I'll give you the directions if you're willing to drive." Sonic said. Although what he said was unbelievably vague, Shadow was interested. He shrugged.
"Sure."

"Now to the left." Sonic instructed. He was no longer as afraid to ride the motorcycle with Shadow anymore. Enough to be able to give him instructions at least.
"And here's our stop." Sonic said as they pulled into a park's parking lot. They got off the bike and Sonic led them off the path immediately.
"I feel like I'm about to get murdered." Shadow joked. Sonic laughed and punched Shadow's shoulder.
"Don't say that or someone will actually think we're going to die."
"'I imagine death so much it feels more like a memory'." Shadow quoted.
For being so formal most of the time, Sonic thought he was quite the fun guy.

After a few minutes of walking, they came across a river. Shadow was left in awe. Despite all the grass and other things that could get in the water, the water itself was crystal clear. Shadow had never seen such a pretty place. When Sonic saw his facial expression, he couldn't help but smile.
"This place is..."
"Nice?"
"Astonishing. It's the most beautiful place I've ever seen." Shadow said. He approached the river and went onto his knees, looking into the water. Sonic knelt beside him. They could see their reflections in the clear water.

"You know what's even cooler about this place?"
"What is it?"
"On New years, you can see the fireworks in the sky. I'm telling, there's nothing better than that." Sonic said confidently. Shadow smiled as he looked into the sky. He was imagining it and it looked amazing.

... The colors of the fireworks lit up the sky in bright lights. All of that was framed by the trees surrounding them. Truly, nothing could be more perfect than this...

Sonic and Shadow stayed there for a while. Sonic told him the story of how he found this place.
"My dad took me out to the park and I ran into the forest. When I found this place, I thought it was the greatest. It's like a safe haven to me. Do you have a safe haven, Shadow?" Shadow was so invested in Sonic's tale of this place that the question caught him off guard.
"Me? I, uh... Well... I don't really have a safe haven..." 'The safest I've felt was when he was taken away...', Shadow thought. Sonic frowned at him and patted his back.
"This could be our safe haven. How does that sound?" Shadow looked at Sonic with a little bit of shock. Then, a smile found it's way onto his face as he looked back into the water.

"I'd like that."
